Poughkeepsie Golden Corral Restaurant Opened Jan. 15

Poughkeepsie, NY residents were forced to wait until Jan. 15 to enjoy the Golden Corral restaurant. The cause of the delay? The gas line.

Sherrance Henderson is the franchise owner, and she said the opening would have to be delayed two weeks. Henderson said the contractor let her know the city denied them a high-pressured gas line after it has already been installed. The contractor would have to reinstall a lower-pressure gas line.

There were several delays in the opening. It was first set to open in September, but then it was pushed back to November and December. Henderson said the delays were attributed to supplies being on back order.

Before its official opening, Golden Corral held a private opening for corporate executives and VIP-invited guests - this included Poughkeepsie officials and others were in attendance. The event is a test run to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Before the company opened in Middletown, the nearest Golden Corral was nearly 90 miles away in Colonie. Henderson said the restaurant would add 125 jobs with four of them being managerial.

Golden Corral is just one of a number of chain restaurants that have opened in Dutchess County such as Tilted Kilt, Texas Roadhouse and Hardee's. A Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen is also set to open in the town, but no official update has been given on it.
