Publix is opening a 13th store in the Gainesville area, which will be located at 203 NW 13th St.
According to company spokesperson Dwaine Stevens, the store will open immediately after construction and stocking are finished. It will include a lounge area, Starbucks and pharmacy. There will be 63 parking spots - two of them for motorcycles, four of them being handicap accessible and 32 for scooters.
Stevens said the store is hiring between 130 and 140 people, with some of these people already being hired. He said the company looks forward to continuing serving the Gainesville and university community.
Arden Lambert is an UF architecture sophomore who said she's unlikely to do her regular shopping with the new Publix, as she resides along Southwest Archer Road. However, it does offer a new place for getting on- campus food.
Lambert, 19, said her studio is located in the area, and if she wanted something healthier than CVS or Chick- fil- A, Publix gives her that option.
She went on to say Publix's new location is convenient for many of her friends who live at The Standard at Gainesville, located along University Ave. She said they could walk to the grocery store and back if need be. Lambert said her friends are ecstatic about the new Publix location.
