Springfield is set to get two new stores - Petco and Burlington Coat Factory. According to developer Tom Ranking, both retailers have agreed to a lease in the Springfield Plaza, which is currently under development.
Ranking said Burlington, which is known for its off-price home product and apparel, will operate in 40,000 square feet. The closest Burlington store is located in Rogers, Ark.
Petco is a pet product store and is set to operate in 13,500 square feet. Its closest location to Springfield is Branson, Mo.
Rankin said Ross Dress for Less also signed a lease for 25,000 square feet of space to open a second store in Springfield. Its first store is located at Primrose Marketplace development along Glenstone Ave.
These stores are set to occupy three of the four retail locations during the first stage of the Springfield Plaza construction. Rankin said a 12,000-square foot location is up for grabs and several shoe retailers have been negotiating for the spot.
According to Rankin, the construction is set to be complete by summer, which means the stores could open by fall 2017.
The Springfield Plaza's second construction stage has yet to begin but it will add another 60,000 or so square feet. That construction is set to start when entities have signed leases for the area. Rankin said the development includes five acre-sized lots that can entertain between 4,000 and 6,000 square feet buildings. The spaces can be used by smaller retailers or restaurants.
