Trader Joe's is opening a new location in Oshtemo Township, Mich. Oct. 12.
Residents can attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the 13,000-square-foot store at the Corner/Drake shopping plaza, which will include giveaways, food tastings and music.
Kenya Friend-Daniel, a spokeswoman with Trader Joe's, said the store in Oshtemo Township, which is located near Kalamazoo, will have murals that bring attention to various area landmarks such as Bronson Park, Kalamazoo River and Waldo Stadium.
Dan Sorscher is the store "Captain," and he and long with the "crew members" will be in attendance for the opening, which is slated to start at 7:55 a.m. and open at 8 a.m. He said each of the 100 crew members had been trained in every aspect of the store instead of focusing on a particular task or two.
The store is located at 5099 Century Ave.
People familiar with the Trader Joe's stores are anxiously awaiting for the fun and interactive experience the company is known for. The store sells gourmet and GMO-free foods, beer, wine, pet food and household products.
Trader Joe's, which is based in Monrovia, Calif., is named after founder Joe Coulombe who loved the Caribbean and wanted a Tiki culture theme in the stores. The company claims it is the neighborhood grocery store, offering high-quality products at "great" prices. There are currently over 465 stores in 41 states.
