Zaxbys Opens New Location in Southern Pines

Right on schedule, the new Zaxby's restaurant opened in Southern Pines, NC

The popular Georgia-based chain is part of the growing "fast-casual" market and offers prepared-to-order chicken fingers, wings, sandwiches and fresh 'Zalads'

This is the eleventh Zaxby's store for licensee Chris Carnes and partners Zoe and Rod Pass, Danny Sangster and Ben Fields. Their other locations include Lumberton, three stores in Fayetteville, Hope Mills, Harrisburg, Asheboro, Whiteville, Sanford, and now at 160 Partner Circle in Southern Pines.

"We looked at this exact same property seven or eight years ago. We've had our eye on this property for a while," said Rod Pass. "This area is affluent and it is a really nice community. People come from all around the world to experience the golf and ambiance and we just wanted to get in before someone beat us to it."

In October 2016, the Southern Pines Town Council gave its blessing to the architectural review of the new store and Zaxby's planned its opening date for the week of Thanksgiving 2017.

"I would never have believed that it would happen, but it did. We are right on schedule and we appreciate everyone's excitement," he said, noting there has been a daily buzz of cars circling the lot checking to see when the restaurant would open.

Zaxby's hired a staff of 80 employees who had been undergoing training in preparation for the grand opening held on Monday, Nov 20.

The chain is best known as a chicken and wing restaurant, Pass said, with sandwiches, salads and their famous chicken fingers and 'Zak sauce.'

Founded by childhood friends Zach McLeroy and Tony Townley in Athens, Ga. in 1990, Zaxby's has grown to more than 800 locations in 17 states.

"As a thriving, family-oriented community, Southern Pines is exactly the type of market that fits Zaxby's model," said co-owner Chris Carnes. "We had been searching for the perfect location in Southern Pines, and after four years, we finally found the ideal spot. In addition to providing locals with a new dining option, we are excited to create more than 80 new jobs and look forward to establishing long-term partnerships with local organizations.
