We went here for our anniversary dinner. It was as incredible as I remember it. The restaurant itself is in such a great location with good parking and an amazing interior. We ordered 2 cocktails (paper tiger and lechoro) which were both incredible. For an appetizer, we got the French onion soup (our waiter convinced us) and it was shockingly good!! Be prepared for cheesy goodness. For our dinner we got the duck and the cod. Both were great, but I have to say the cod was my favorite. It was so soft and the sauce was incredible. The duck was also so amazing, it had the skin on it which was different for me but it was still so delicious. For dessert (and I'm not a dessert person) we got the chocolate toffee pudding (that may be the wrong name) and it was the BEST dessert I've ever had. It's basically like a chocolate cake lying in a bed of salted caramel heaven. We didn't even get a picture because we ate it so fast. I would get this for SURE every time I came here.

We came into town and had a reservation at Bull and Beggar at 830 pm. We were sat almost immediately. Our waitress (who I can’t remember her name and I’m upset by that because she was absolutely AMAZING!) made a few drink recommendations—I had the Firing Squad and my partner had The Punch. They were both stout and tasty.
Then came the food….just stunning. The focaccia bread was fluffy and textured, and the butter was perfectly herbed and creamy. The Saucisson appetizer had the most delicious, buttery, warm olives. And they paired perfectly with the sausage (which was Iberico Chorizo tonight).
Next up was the Onion Soup and the Butter Lettuce Salad. Holy taste bud punch Batman!! My soup was piping hot, salty and sweet. The cheese topping was twangy, gooey, and a great combination. Hands down top 2 best onion soups I’ve ever had!! And the salad….was a great portion size, had full lettuce pieces and these huge warm focaccia croutons. It was topped with crumbed Maytag and a dressing that can ONLY be described as a heavenly combo of green goddess and buttermilk ranch. We scraped these bowls clean!
And on to the main courses: I had the mushroom fricassee. It was creamy and cheesy, with butter cooked mushrooms that melted in your mouth and had shaved truffles on top. It was warm and delicious!
But my partner….he had the Steak Frites. Cooked medium rare. It was HANDS DOWN the best filet either of us have either tasted.
We took home a Sticky Pudding and enjoyed it in our hotel.
I cannot stress enough to anyone—go eat here. Even if you want to just split something. It will absolutely BLOW YOUR MIND. ❤️❤️
Asheville has a lot to live up to after our first meal here.

Service was very poor. Very slow. Food was okay; personally a bit too over powered with flavors. Ambiance was great; wish others aspects were better. Way too expensive.

Celebrated husbands birthday here and highly recommend! Our waitress was incredibly kind, attentive, and made our visit special. We sat outside in January and the heaters kept us warm and comfortable. We took a lot of rec’s from our waitress from cocktails, to wine, to dessert/ dessert cocktails and everything was phenomenal. This has been one of our favorite restaurants we have ever been to and has a cool cocktail bar beside it (bottle riot) and and a brewery also to the other side (wedge) to make a whole night experience if you wanted. Don’t skip this for your special occasions.

An absolute treat to find this spot in the River Arts district. We were very pleased with the 36 hour lamb and the accompanying focaccia. Amazingly fresh and ample was the butter lettuce with blue cheese salad (the croutons are one of a kind!) We enjoyed the escargot but it was missing a bit of seasoning - I would have preferred a few flakes of Maldon in the shell to make it pop. Overall, excellent quality and we will return!

Went here this evening with my wife and parents. Upon arrival we were seated in the restaurant fairly quickly. It was quite chilly out so we were happy to be inside...unfortunately they didn't turn the heat on so we all ate our meal with our winter jackets on. Menu was nice except my mother wanted the scallops and when it was time to order we were informed from the server that the scallops were not available. The server should have mentioned this upon us being greater and seated. We ordered our cocktails and they took 15 minutes to arrive. No big deal. Food was prepared perfectly. We all enjoyed our meals. From the moment our appetizers hit the table we didn't see our server once. Service was horrible at best. Like I said food was good so it was easy to overlook the poor service. I had to go to the host stand to ask for boxes and the bill. We were really surprised to see a 2% service fee listed as "Kitchen Service Fee". I asked the server what this was and why it was on the bill. She offered to remove it. It wouldn't have been a big deal if it had been listed on the menu in print or we had been told about it in advance. I mentioned to the server that the owner of the restaurant was too cheap to pay his kitchen staff a living wage and was passing it off onto the patrons. We spent over $400 for four people. This is a petty charge and for this very reason we will NOT return ever again. Be upfront and honest with your patrons versus trying to pull the wool over there eyes. What a shame. I own a restaurant and would never expect my customers to pay an additional charge because I'm too cheap to pay my kitchen crew a decent wage. Shame on you!

Best steak we’ve had in a while and the chocolate dessert was out of this world. Definitely coming back!

Went here with two friends for a late dinner with drinks. Service was superb. This is an European pub style restaurant and bar. You will find some gems on the menu. I tried the salmon tartine, pork belly, chicken pot pie, and sticky toffee pudding. Everything was excellent. Prices are on the high side but sometimes you get what you pay for.

We accidentally stumbled on this place and it was a complete surprise. 30 minutes before closing and we were treated with the utmost care and precision. Matt gave us impeccable service and the food was mind blowing. We had a variety of small plates. The foie gras was outstanding, I highly recommend the pork belly and we had the lamb shoulder pie. We discovered that escargot are high in protein and these were by far the best I have ever had in my life! Then we topped it off with the MUST have sticky toffee pudding! Thank you so much for such a memorable meal!

For myself, I find it to be the best restaurant in Asheville. You don't want to miss a bite. Sop up all the gravy with bread, it's that good. Had the lamb and cote' de boeuf. Perfect. Also, they have seasonal dishes. I saw different items the last time we ate here. Try the gimlet. They sprinkle dill on top. So smooth.Food: 5/5

My husband and I LOVE Bull and Beggar! The filet mignon is fabulous, melts in your mouth and perfect. We enjoy the ambiance and good service. We go there for our "special occasions" and are never disappointed.

We had reservations and still had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. Also, once we ordered we waited a long time for our food to be served, in the meanwhile when we asked our server if our order would be coming soon, her reply was a flippant “I hope so” said with attitude. No other attentive service from her at all - she came across like she resented having to wait on our group. Food was ”okay” - expected more for the higher price. Needless to say, will not be back. Many other places in Asheville to choose from.

Didn't love the food, or the experience. I recommend going elsewhere. I hate to leave bad reviews, but I feel like this place deserves one.
