Our granddaughters, ages 6 & 4, had a wonderful time sifting through their buckets of sand. Each found numerous rocks and gems. The 6-year-old found an especially interesting amethyst that attracted the attention of all of the staff. Daniel told the girls about the different gems and rocks they found and although I know they didn’t fully understand what he shared, they listened intently. It was an awesome and fun educational experience at a reasonable price. The girls left happy with their finds.

THIS PLACE IS SO SICK! Incredible collection in the museum and the gem mining was really cool. Zach gave us and incredible tour and he was so friendly and knowledgeable. Riley and Jacob were also so awesome, knowledgeable, and helpful. We were incredibly lucky to have this place to ourselves. Must stop at this place especially if you are into paleontology. I had to leave before I spent all my money. THANK YOU

Last minute stop on the way out of town and it was so fun! We got the Appalachian ore mining bucket and had so much fun we got another. My youngest and husband had lots to explore and check out while my oldest and I did the buckets. All the guys there were super friendly and patient with my children, even when they were busy at the start! They answered all our questions, packaged our finds nicely, and helped in picking our two best to get cut and mailed to us. If we're in the area again, we will definitely be returning. We have fantastic memories, awesome additions to our growing collection and have some special keepsakes in the works. Special thanks to all who worked there today for making it a great end to our trip!

This was such a fun experience! I was amongst adults but we were having as much fun as the kids sifting for gems & minerals. The staff is super passionate & knowledgeable about everything we found! They were genuinely excited to explain what each mineral was. Definitely recommend the $40 bucket! We also did the emerald bag for $18 because we had so much fun. Highly recommend for anyone at any age :)

Doc's Rocks Gem Mine is a super cool place to visit. I took two App State students and they had a blast. You choose the size of the bag or bucket that you want to mine, and whether you want to do it seated or standing. You then sift through the material you are given to find any gems and fossils it may contain. After finishing a gentleman who worked at the mine sorted through and pointed out what the good finds were and told about them. Findings included sapphire, garnet, a shark tooth and a tiny fossil. There are also various rocks and gems available for sale. We didn't play but there is a dinosaur-themed indoor miniature golf course. The guys working there were very nice and very helpful.

Loved this spot! Actually went for the Appalachian Fossil Museum but had fun with putt putt, too! We've done gem mining recently so we didn't do it again, but watched some other guests who were having a good time. Riley was very knowledgeable on the museum tour and shoutout to Rachel who is training and shared her knowledge on several displays. The kids and I enjoyed it. (Ages 10/6)

We had such a great time with our two little ones today! Our three year old loved it, while the 18 month old could care less. The staff was so nice to us while they watched the 18 month run around and the assistant manager was so sweet with our 3 year old at the end when he helped him clean up his fossils. We also did the museum. The tour guide was EXTREMELY sweet and so knowledgeable. They were phenomenal with our kids and took so much time to walk us around and tell us everything about the dinosaurs. My husband loved it. From a mom of two tiny kiddos, thank you, thank you, thank you, for being so amazing to us!!!!!

Went there today and spent over $80 (including tax) on a mega strike bucket to sift through. Between two kids it lasted 12 minutes. We waited longer to talk to the guy about what we "found" than it took to actually go through that small amount of sand surrounding seeded stones and arrowhead replicas. He did get one large stone... which is cool but maybe worth $25 if bought outright.I was hoping for something that would keep them entertained for about an hour... that was crazy fast.Everybody there was super nice. Actually amazingly nice... but not worth the money unfortunately. I really wanted to recommend this place... but unfortunately I cannot. After this experience I did not even want to visit the museum.

All of the staff were so knowledgeable and willing to answer all of our questions. Especially Riley, who gave us the best tour of the Dino museum. His knowledge of all things Dino and rock was worth every penny. He was so patient with my 7 year old who had lots to say and ask about dinosaurs. We could not have asked for a better guide. Thanks to Doc's Rocks and all the staff for giving us some really special memories.*****On a separate note, the question below regarding the cost of entry, to enter Doc's Rocks is free, but each activity (gem mining, putt-putt & museum) had its own price. All of it is worth every penny.

My daughter had fun. The museum they had was nice and had a place for her to "excavate" for bones ?. They had a neon light mini golf course inside and that was cool, nothing fancy, can get through it in 5- 10 minutes. I think they had 8 or 10 holes in total. The gem mining and gift shop was really the highlight. They had lots of gems to pick from in the shop, and the gem mining was fun and we got some cool looking things out of them, including fossils. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Prices were ok. I would definitely go again next time we go on vacation. We probably spent a little over an hour there in total.

We had so much fun! The youngest kid got the emerald strike, and we got the mother load. We got some amazing stones. It was a neat experience for the kiddos. The fossil museum was the best in my opinion. The guy Chris who was in there had to tons of stories and really super cool information. We enjoyed his guidance on what to look at and history information.

I can't express enough how wonderful our experience was here! We were immediately greeted by the staff at the door, and given our options for the day. We went to the museum where we were given the perfect amount of guidance and information. Afterward, we did the unseeded ore bucket which was a fun experience. Once we got the goodies from the bucket, we had two staff members help us out with identification. We even opted for the gem cutting service, and are excitedly waiting for those. Overall, everything was entertaining and amazing!

Come here !!! We brought nine people, everyone over the age of 15 except our baby and this was the perfect way to spend time together without being so far apart! Everyone could find something to do and still check in on each other. Thank you staff for being so catering and answering all questions, I learned a lot! I would visit again and recommend to friends. We got so many stones more than I thought. Well run place !!
