I will always support an honest business. We rented skis for our 9 year old. Unfortunately another family grabbed his and we were out of luck. We put in requests at the ski resort and a few shops by the slopes to keep an eye out. As expected, we had to pay the fee for the "lost skis" but we're assured if they were turned in we would get a refund. My husband followed up after a week and the skis were not turned in. Several weeks later he got a call that they were located and a refund would be issued within the next 3-4 hours. And it was!! We learned to use Lockard after this experience. But we are so thankful the staff were honest and followed up with us as promised. Highly recommend this company for rental needs.

Spent a lot of time on the phone and in the store and the man was very helpful on finding a fitting boot size, ive had 2 pairs of other boots that hurt too much and the worker here helped me find a perfect pair. This is the place in Boone to go for snowboard equipment

Good experience. We picked up performance ski after 8 pm on the day before rent. Ski are good. Condition is better than the cheapest development ski, so if you have some experience, I would recommend taking performance ski. Price is cheaper than on the mountain and rental in advance saves time. We were renting on weekdays, so no lines at all.

For reference, I have only written one other review in my life... and it was for Golden Corral because it was so good. Today, we got rentals from 1st tracks ski shop to ski in Boone. We got a couple pairs of Head skis, and they were probably a couple years old and pretty beat up. For reference, you can go online and buy the skis for $175 in the same condition.Long story short, the skis were stolen outside of the lodge on the last run of the day. We went to First Tracks to tell them the bad news, and they charged us the "original price they bought the skis for" aka $435. When we asked why it cost so much, the rental manager got in my face and gave me a 2 minute monologue on how we were disrespectful of his property. This definitely wasn't a Golden Corral-like experience, and I wouldn't wish what happened to us today upon anyone.

Had a broken binding buckle, and they were very accommodating in helping getting it replaced with a working part, and charged a very reasonable amount for the service. Overall nice place, nice people

We have been shopping here for years, if your looking for a new pair of skis or snowboard, this is the place to go in the High Country. Very professional and attentive to your needs. Very competitive on price for quality skis and skiwear and have been servicing my skis in a manner of hours with a phone call that they are ready. We ski out west and I would put this shop up against the shops in Colorado. The Neville's will take care of you during the sell and after. Jack F.

Beware of very deceptive business practices! My daughter is buying boots and visited this store last week. When she told the staff member her boot size and the boot she was interested in, she was handed the boots to try on by herself with no assistance from an employee. Normally, this would really not be a big deal, but when she called me for advice and I told her that I would prefer that she try to find something less expensive, the staff member told her that if she didn't buy boots that day, they would charge her a $25 "fitting fee". They did not mention this fee when she was trying on the boots and nobody helped her try on the boots anyway. They didn't even measure her foot size. My daughter is too shy to watch out for herself in this type of interaction and just agreed to pay it. When I called the store after her departure, the person I spoke with was rude, she lied to me about the help my daughter received, and she refused to do the right thing...give my daughter a $25 refund of the money that they didn't earn in the first place. I was never rude to her, but she hung up on me when she decided she didn't want to deal with my very reasonable request for the refund. I have researched this store since this incident and have uncovered that many others have experienced high-pressure shady sales tactics and would also recommend not buying from 1st Tracks. I know that they will never get my business or the business of anyone that I know that asks for my opinion. I will be sure to warn anyone thinking about buying new boots. Also, their prices are too high. I found the same boots for my daughter for $100 less than the price that she was given at 1st Tracks. I will be reporting this business to the BBB as well.

Amazing service. Small business run by a cool guy. Came in with my siblings to purchase ski boots. Fit use to our skiing abilities and foot size. Later came back to purchase ski's and ski poles. Does in house servicing on skis and included putting on the bindings in the price. But here, the prices are cheaper than at ski mountain shops.

Knowledgeable and friendly staff along with competitive prices. The staff and the business hours do a lot do get your rental needs squared away so you can get right to the slopes the next morning and drop off equipment after a tiring day.I just wish the parking lot were larger.

Knowing it was a holiday weekend I made reservations for equipment well in advance for our family of 6 to avoid the long rental lines. In order to make a reservation, I had to provide full names, addresses, height, weight, shoe size and ski/snowboard preferences for each of us. Received an e-mail the day before confirming the reservation, and called the morning of to ask if there was a specific time we should pick our equipment up. The person that answered told us no, it didn’t matter, come anytime. We arrived at the store around 4pm to pick up the rentals, and were told they were all sold out. Having a reservation didn’t mean anything!!!? What was the point of asking all our personal information/ sizes??? They said it was first come first serve, and they wouldn’t be getting any snowboards today; so sorry.I admit, I lost my cool a bit asking what the point of having a reservation was and was told, “I’m sorry, we didn’t predict that so many people would be coming to the high country today, etc., we just work here and are trying to feed our family.” I asked to speak to the manager then, and was given the name, “Matt, the owner” and a phone number. We called from the parking lot and I’m pretty sure the girl that gave it to us answered and said he was “unavailable.” Completely unprofessional and a joke! We went to a snowboard shop close by who told us we weren’t the only ones that this had happened to today. Several others had contacted them saying they had the same experience with the 1stTracks “reservation.” Fortunately we went up the road to “Highland House Ski Shop” who were more than accommodating (despite being very busy as well.) They were also “sold out” but allowed us to wait a bit while equipment was being brought in and did everything they could to help us. EVERY single employee there was polite and professional. Ended up being $70 cheaper too! Pretty sad 1stTracks would intentionally mislead so many customers into thinking they had reservations, when in fact you do not!

This place is a complete joke. We reserved our equipment weeks in advance and a time slot to pick it up and then bought our lift tickets after securing everything. When we arrive to pick up said equipment during our designated time slot they said “sorry we are sold out and today the mountain is busy anyways so you prob just shouldn’t go”. Way to ruin our trip and waste hundreds of $$ for lift tickets that are non-refundable.

We took a snowboard there this past week to get edged and waxed and my boyfriend was highly pleased. He had always went to another place in Banner Elk, but has decided we will be going here for our snowboard care needs. Thanks for the great job!
