After having multiple frustrating experiences completely lacking in empathy or humanity with the big banks, I decided to open my business bank account with Northern Birch. They provide top tier service, fees are far more reasonable, and if there is ever an issue they are there to help. I am so glad I made the switch and I'm a member of Northern Birch now.

Find all of my experiences amazing. Even when frustrated, I find the staff willing to go above and beyond to help. Amalgamation was a nightmare due to my insurance company. NBCU staff worked with me tirelessly to get it resolved. They also handled my less than pleasant at times attitude with the utmost decorum and professionalism. Thank you always for your patience. I have been member at Latvian Credit Union since childhood and am grateful to continue banking now with NBCU.

As a customer of the Estonian Credit Union (and now Northern Birch) for about three decades, I can say they have not only consistently provided outstanding service, but they have also extended their warmth and expertise to my entire family. We’ve grown up, bought a house, had kids, lost loved ones, saw one kid start university, and started estate and retirement planning. They have been there to help us with every step and misstep (ours). There is no doubt they stand out for their exceptional customer service, personalized approach, and remarkable support.The staff members have always greeted us with smiles, attentiveness, and a genuine interest in our financial well-being. What sets them apart is their care for each of us individually and for our entire family. They have gone above and beyond to educate and engage our teenagers, making banking a fun and educational experience for them. Our children have developed a sense of responsibility and pride in managing their finances, thanks in part to Northern Birch’s nurturing environment.They are an invaluable financial partner for us. For some reason, some people seem hesitant about credit unions, but I tell my friends and colleagues this banking experience goes beyond expectations. I’m thankful to my mum who suggested I switch from one of the big banks so many years ago.

Banking with NBCU in person and online on their app is so easy and I love always hearing a friendly familiar voice on the other end of the phone whenever I call in for help! I have been banking with them my entire life and I wouldn't have it any other way.

My wife and I bought our first house together with Northern Birch in 2019, and bought our second property in January 2022. We now bank almost exclusively with NBCU. The customer service is unmatched!

The best bank/credit union I've ever dealt with! When you call, they answer (no automated voices asking you to press your extension or hold to transfer), when you send a message on Skype they answer promptly, when you go to the branch they know who you are and you are serviced within five minutes tops. The service is professional, friendly and personal. If the credit union makes a profit all the members share in it unlike a bank where only the fat cats at the top are made even fatter. FREE inter-ac, free e-transfers. If your check bounces, they call you to ask you to put money in to avoid charges! Nobody cares about you the way Northern Birch does.

Horrible to work with if you are trying to bank for a relative. My mother in law is in a nursing home, in a wheelchair, suffering dementia. My spouse has power of attorney. This bank refuses to allow her to set up an online account to access her RIFs without my mother in law’s involvement, which is impossible. They send everything by snail mail, regardless of impending deadlines. Every other financial institution we’ve dealt with has been easy to work with. This one just puts up roadblocks.

One of the BEST businesss establishments in Toronto.
Why pay user fees to a bank when you can use your debit card free through the ECU? Why wait in line for tellers that don't know you when you can wait one minute or less for one that does? Why not get paid bonus interest once a year? This is the best 'bank' ever and it offers all the services of a regular bank (except for RDSPs - which are only offered by RBC and BoM). Instead of charging me when I bounce a check, they don't let it bounce; they pay the amount that I don't have in my account and tell me to get it in ASAP. No bank anywhere would do that for their customers.
Low fees/no fees and bonus interest make this bank unsurpassed. The Skype service is excellent as is the phone service; you talk to an actual person as soon as they pick up the phone instead of a maze of options that is a tremendous waste of time. you verify yourself with your name or bank account number -- no birthdate, address, mothers maiden name, PIN just to talk to someone. Transactions are quick, smooth, professional and friendly. They care about their clients at ECU.
There's no reason to use a bank instead of a credit union - especially this most excellent one!
