Never got to meet the owner Jim in person but was super fast at responding to text and calls which was perfect and his staff member Grumpy was really great and showed us around the campsite and got us checked in. The canvas tent we got was very large and warm with a nice bed and a cot with a mini fridge heater a fan and a few other things as well. Overall perfect setting for a get away with the family I honestly can't think of anything that would make this camp any better 10/10. Also the painting on the inside of the tent has so much detail and is really amazing.

It was amazing to happen upon this hostel. The bunkhouse was peaceful, comfortable, and warm. The grounds are beautiful and you're surrounded by art and pleasant vibes here. The owner is so welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. I was in heaven here a d wish I could have stayed longer.Nearby activities: Johnson City is about 20 min away and Asheville is one hour awayWalkability: The AT is walking distance to the property and there are little trails everywhere

Beautiful location, close to the AT, helpful staff. Daily shuttle into town. Great fire pit. Wonderful breakfasts. Lots of hot water for showers. What more could you ask for!

I didn't rate the rooms because I camped. This is an excellent hostel and campground. Lucky Moon is a sweet and encouraging caretaker who understands and welcomes hikers. The shuttle service is efficient.

We stayed just one night but had an amazing time. The owner, Jim, was super friendly and made us feel at home. The cabin tent was extremely cozy, with a mural painted inside which doubled as black out shades in the morning. The bed and blankets were super comfy, and we slept great. The property itself is very cool, unique and artfully decorated. Bathrooms were extremely clean, and the breakfast in the morning was a treat.Booked on a whim just for a place to crash after arriving late, discovered a gem and we will definitely be back!

Absolutely amazing, Jim is great such a nice guy really keeps the place together, his team really accommodates you and makes you feel like a part of the family. Many different personalities and a wonderful place to relax and take time away. "Town" is close but dont expect to be doing anything but getting supplies. I will definitely be back this time with friends.

I came down to this part of Tennessee to fish the hills for wild trout. I stayed two nights at Boots Off, in Wall Tent No. 1. In close proximity to the AT, Boots Off mainly caters to long trail hikers, section and thru hikers. It has accomodations to fit various needs and budgets, from tent sites, to a shared bunkhouse, to tiny cabins and a couple of framed canvas wall tents on platforms. Toilets are a couple of rustic looking "outhouses," but with modern plumbing and a small sink with hot and cold running water inside each. Showers are also "rustic" and communal, but again fitted with modern plumbing. Both were very clean and functional. Breakfasts are offered with the price, and they served good coffee, fruit, cereal, and also allowed use of a full kitchen if you wanted to make something yourself. The staff, especially Lucky Moon, were very friendly and helpful. Even tho I totally screwed up my reservation dates, they were patient and nice about it. Solid cell service, but no wifi. If you want a romantic "glamping" type experience suitable for spouses and sweethearts, I highly recommend the largest Wall Tent, No. 1. It comes furnished with a nice queen bed, a small table and chairs, a fan, a small fridge, a propane heater, a covered porch, a charcoal grill, and a picnic table. A renowned AT artist painted the entire interior in mountain and forest themes, and it is pure magic inside! It was so romantic, I wished my wife was with me! It, too, was very clean. Around the same money as a cheap skeevy motel. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would stay here again. Here are some pics . ..

Loved my visit. stay more than a minute and it feels like family. some people complained that you could not restock here, but that is why they do 2 shuttles to town! free showers, $5 laundry. This place could melt you into a string of zeros, so be careful ?

I can not give enough stars!!! Hands down the best Hostel on the trail, in my opinion. Jim, Grumpy and staff were accommodating to every need we had. From the top (where the bunkhouse and first book library sit) to the bottom (where the tent sites are located) and everything in between (the hikers kitchen, store, deck, amphitheater, fire pit, stage, bath houses, AMAZING SHOWERS and second library) one call tell that this place is a true calling for Jim and staff. A lot of love for the trail, hikers and property went into every decision and it shows. This was the second time we have been here, and it is safe to say that we will be back.

An Appalachian Trail hostel.I didn't give a room number rating because I didn't rent one. I noticed that there were several small, 1 room cabins, a community bunk house, and I'm not sure of other options. (just strolled around and observed)It had more than one shuttle vehicle, some very nice primitive campsites, food, supplies, showers, laundry, picnic tables, a group kitchen, and a cute little library book exchange.Really, fine wood benches sit amphitheater style up a small slope to one side of a campfire with a stage nearby. The owner and staff were all very helpful and friendly.I didn't get to spend any in-depth time there, but I would give it a try. From what I could tell, it isn't near any town nightlife.... but it is near Lake Watauga, and they had plenty of rental kayaks.Nearby activities: The Appalachian Trail.Lake Watauga.Day hiking Cherokee National Forest such as Laurel Falls.Noteworthy details: Catering to Appalachian Trail thru hikers, day hikers, and those who enjoy Lake Watauga. A rustic camping get-together hostel experience

This weekend I found a wonderful place in TN that is a diamond!! I love this place! Absolutely wonderful service and they have everything you could possibly need if you are hiking the Appalachian Trail. From the owner Jim to the Staff members Pringles and the famous Grumpy I give these guys a 5 star rating!!! They treat you like family before you even get there! Campsites are great but if you are looking for more comfort then you have choices of cabins , canvas tents or the bunk house w/ heat & air! Nice bathrooms and showers! I definitely will be back and will spread the word about this amazing place!! ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

Another great AT hostel! Tented here a few nights ago and the place is awesome. Cool art all over the place, little cabins as well as a large tenting area and bunkhouse. Full kitchen with activities and a camp store. They offer aquablazing as well! You paddle 9 miles of the Watauga Lake and it counts for 21 miles of AT. Was a super fun way to spend the day and switch things up. The owner, Jim was a nice guy to talk to and he really cares about this place. His heart is really in it. Would stay again!I didn't take any pictures of this Hostel, but I'm sure someone else did. Here's a few of the aquablazing

Jim, Grumpy, and all staff were very courteous and accommodating during our half-day Kayak rentals. Jim was a huge help in navigating the lake during a windy day and was very hospitable and friendly after we returned in the shuttle. 5 Stars, please book your kayak rentals with Boots Off! - Friday and
