We were visiting Nashville from out of town and wanted to try Nashville hot chicken. Grandaddy's did not disappoint, the service was superb and the chicken was some of the best chicken we have had in a long time. My wife is gluten free and the resturant was very accommodating and cooked up some without breading. If you are in Nashville and want to try hot chicken make sure you visit Grandaddy and skip the chains.

My hubby and I stopped here for some Nashville hot chicken. Wowza, was it good!! I had the breast with fried corn (both mild) and my hubby had the loaded chicken sandwich with collard greens and fried corn (mild also). The corn was awesome, probably the best corn I’ve ever had. The chicken was spot on! It was cooked perfectly and was super tender and juicy! Hands down the best fried chicken meal I have had EVER. The people were ridiculously friendly too. It doesn’t look like much but go and I guarantee you will not be disappointed!

Food was just okay.. It definitely doesn't hold a candle to Princes hot chicken at all. It also had a weird lime flavor that I didn't enjoy at all.

Love this place. Best hot chicken I’ve ever had. The fried okra and fried corn on cob are to die for! The homemade dessert finished off the best lunch we had in Nashville. You can’t go wrong eating here.

So. Good. As I left after my meal, I remarked that you can just tell their food is made with thoughtfulness and passion. I had the loaded chicken sandwich "mild", the collard greens, and the coleslaw. It was all delicious, well seasoned, so fresh. My colleagues and talked about it for an hour after we left. Special mention of the COLLARD GREENS! Oh my. I can't get over how good they were. Please visit this small restaurant with very good food and kind people!

I am a big fan of their light mild chicken wings, chicken sandwich, and corn on the cob. They could do Bette truth sides but the chicken is fantastic and consistently good every time. They are always friendly. Call ahead to avoid the wait since food is cooked to order.

Without a doubt one of the best restaurants I have ever had the pleasure of eating at. Skip the long lines in Nashville and drive up here to have the tastiest chicken in TN. Amazing service, chill and friendly atmosphere, and food.

Nice people and good food but never opens on time and closes before the time it says. 2nd time I've come all the way here and they're closed before 7:30 as the door says. Google has closing time at 8. Doesn't matter because they close and open when they want to. I rather deal with better businesses like Helens, Princes!

We went here today for lunch with my Mom. We were warmly welcomed the moment we walked in the door. Very nice people and excellent fresh hot food! I love a family run business. My mother had the chicken salad (said it was delicious) and my husband had the fried corn on the cob and a chicken sandwich with the heat level being one away from the hottest. He said it was very good. He also got one large tender at the highest level of heat. He said it was good, but preferred the chicken sandwich level. I tried a chicken tender with no heat and it was cooked perfectly! We're so glad we found this place and will definitely be returning soon.

Tucked away in the northeastern reaches of Nashville in a tiny strip mall in Lakewood is one of the city's greatest hot chicken experiences. But thanks to user-driven platforms like Yelp, this establishment is not a secret. The word is out! Another eatery known as Granddaddy's Famous in Joelton is owned by the founder's son and is equally fabulous. But only at Granddaddy's Original can you eat deliciously spicy entrees and side dishes cooked by granddaddy himself, a retiree who stays active by frying up hot dishes for loyal patrons with his secret recipe. Even the country music legend and hot chicken fan Lorrie Morgan eats here!Run by the sweetest family you'll ever meet, you're immediately welcomed into their small eatery with the unmistakable smell of southern fried food wafting from within. You're instantly reminded by signage, and possibly granddaddy himself, that breast quarters take 25 minutes to prepare. That's a good sign, because everything is being made fresh. They're even growing their own organic peppers, so attention to detail is paramount here. And the wait is absolutely worth it! The food is also tremendously affordable! The texture of the fried chicken is literally perfection, delicately brittle, crunchy yet subtle, a crispy complement to the tender chicken inside. The spice levels aren't as skewed as some chicken joints, so a medium here is like a mild elsewhere. That gives patrons a better range to find that perfect heat. I wouldn't say the spices are as complex at Granddaddy's as a few other spots in town, but thankfully they don't burn much beyond their original journey over your taste buds. That's a good thing. One fantastic feature that I haven't seen anywhere else is that you can order literally any menu item and make it hot and spicy. Patrons rave about their Nashville hot corn on the cob, which I'll be ordering next time. You can spice up your beans, collared greens, coleslaw, potato salad, whatever. And the fries are already spicy, which obviously you can make hotter. But the real discovery was fried okra like no one else does it! Instead of okra pods sliced into small circles, it's fried whole. And it's already pretty spicy both inside and out. By some sort of magic, the interior of each piece of okra is spicy with every bite, like they've been genetically engineered to contain hot sauce. I complemented granddaddy on this marvelous feat of culinary wizardry, but I didn't get the secret out of him. He did say that even people who don't like okra love this side dish! And I've added it to my top 25 things to eat in Nashville (future documentary to hit YouTube)! I absolutely loved Granddaddy's and so will you!

The absolute best chicken I've had hands down. This beats any of the chain joints and all smaller places I've been to. I had the loaded medium spice chicken sandwich which is the perfect heat. The potato salad was also amazing. Definitely give this a visit.

The flavor is very unique, it’s different from most other Hot Chicken. The collard greens were absolutely the best I’ve EVER had! The owners are extremely friendly and passionate about what they do. Really great people. Definitely will be back to try their Kabob that apparently has a pickle in every bite. Sounds great.

The food is good. Fresh made to order. I do love to see my money go into a locally owned business. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I wish they had a better dine in area.

Service was amazing! I'm new to this area . "Grandaddy" told us the history of his restaurant and how it came about would definitely say the chicken was the best hot chicken in the city ! Just the parking wasn't to great !
