I really enjoyed it but it is overrated. This is the first time I have ever been there. I went on a Sunday because I was told it was free that day for residents BUT it's only free for the first 2 hours they are open and we went around 2:30 in the afternoon and were only there for about an hour so my daughter could get pictures and historical information for her school project in art. Admission fee is way overpriced for such a small museum, but then again I am from Chicago and frequented the Chicago Museum of Art so I am used to going to a much larger museum that can't be seen in one day. I guess not everything is bigger in Texas. Oh and the handicap door wasn't working properly making it hard to enter and exit the building.

One of the best collections of ancient Greek and Roman artifacts we have seen in many museums visited across the country. Extensive collections acquired by donations and purchases. While we did enjoy the museum, we did note that many of the older pieces was funerary items and may have been acquired originally through pilfering and smuggling from their original sites and countries.

I am originally from Brownsville, Texas and moved up to San Antonio roughly ten years ago. Everyone family and or friends come in to visit, I ALWAYS take them to the SAMA. The art and statues are beautifully displayed with very detailed descriptions. We had the pleasure of meeting REBECCA, the Supervisor of Security. She went on to tell us stories about some of the artifacts and information on future exhibits; my god children absolutely loved it! My experience at SAMA is always great but meeting Rebecca and hearing her stories, was the cherry on top!

I always enjoy spending time here. Tuesday is free admission from 4 pm to 7 pm for Bexar County residents. Just give them your zip code.

One of the best museums we've visited! We are from Minnesota and have many museums here and sculpture gardens but this was a huge museum! We definitely would recommend this museum to others!

Excellent museum! It has a very wide and varied display of art. It is preferable to go with enough time to explore everything calmly and enjoy each floor. Inside it has an Italian restaurant (three trattoria), for which reservations are recommended. It is a great option to go out on the riverwalk side and walk towards the pearl district to eat.

We are not normally museum people but we spent hours there. They had an incredible collection of so many different things. We really enjoyed their large collections of Japanese, Chinese, Oceanic, Greek and Roman artifacts. I was expecting a little more from Texas but otherwise would highly recommend as a must-see when visiting San Antonio

Beautiful special exhibit of American paintings and sculpture from the DeMell Jacobsen collection. Spent an hour just enjoying the range of styles from realistic to abstract.

This was a lot better than I expected. Children 12 and under are free. I loved the Egypt and Greek area. But they had many interesting areas. Also much bigger inside than it looked on the outside. Parking was only about 5 bucks right across the street. We went on a Saturday around 130 and there was plenty of parking.

I thoroughly enjoyed our experience here.I enjoyed many of the pieces a great deal. I found a few of my favorite artists here including a fantastic piece by Bierstadt.Parking is easy. The staff was friendly. The layout is conducive to enjoying the aesthetic of the museum in addition to the individual art pieces. One suggestion, the Qing dynasty pottery is hidden on a back wall. It was probably my favorite set of works on that floor and worth looking for. You might not find it without looking.

Very great place to visit. Recommend arriving early on weekdays as they close at 4.

Wow, this place is truly mind-blowing! Tickets were $20 and they were completely worth it. I did not expect to see so many artifacts from Rome, Egypt, Greece, and many other places around the world. The Egyptian Exhibit was particularly impressive, and if you are interested in Greek pottery or Roman sculptures you’ll have a lot to see as well. The artwork exhibits were amazing as well. There was art from all over America at the “Made in America” exhibit and that was very interesting to look through! The European art exhibit was very impressive, with some paintings dating back to the 15th century! This is a great stop in San Antonio and you’d be missing out if you didn’t check it out!

I was blown away by this museum! I went on a rainy day by myself and had a wonderful time. I really enjoyed how all of the wings were organized. Despite it being a Saturday, the noise level was low and everyone was respectful. A friendly security guard started talking to me in the Pre-Colombian art section and we had a nice discussion on how technically skilled these cultures were. This museum is also one of the only places in America with an in-tact Tibetan sand mandala. I never thought I'd see one up close before, and the fact that this one has not been ritualistically swept away was very special. They have wheelchairs available and the entire museum is incredibly accessible. Knowing this, I will definitely be back and I can bring my mom.
