I have a concern about accessibility of crop cash and EBT use at the Middlebury Farmer’s Market. I went to the Farmer’s Market today with my boyfriend with the hope of using our SNAP benefits to purchase food. Sharon Kerwin was running the booth for crop cash and after trying to process our EBT card, explained that her reader didn’t work, despite having successfully completed several transactions before us. She even told us our card must not work. Our Vermont EBT card has over $400 on it, and is working. When I asked her about troubleshooting the issue, she was very rude and refused to help us try and solve our problem. We had to ask other vendors for help, and they even offered to loan us money so that we could afford food. I am very displeased with Sharon’s help, she did not assist us, and denied us access to the benefits we have already been awarded, as the EBT card is working. If accessing crop cash at the Farmer’s Market is inaccessible, and the individuals running the EBT stand aren’t able to correctly process transactions, food access is greatly limited to those that need it the most. I am greatly disappointed in the assistance I received today, I left without being able to purchase any food.

There is always something good to find at the Saturday farmers market. Just make sure to go early enough before all of the tasty pastries are gone!

First market of the season. I attended, and there were very few vendors. See what's up in the following week.

So wonderful to have an indoor farmers market in the winter! Had a great time chatting with each vendor and bringing something home from each one. Thanks for organizing this.

It's small but I love going to see what the vendors have each week. There is a farmer from hardwood farms who brings a select of starters, there is a farmer who makes, bakes and sells GF oats & breads. She also makes gelato! There is also a woman who makes gins, liqueurs, and rums. There are a few other tents that come and they are all equally wonderful. The market is on Wednesday and Saturdays 9am to 12noon.

Only been living in the area for a few years, so I can't speak to what it was like in the distant past...but I can say that unfortunately I will not be supporting this farmer's market with its current operating policies. The main reason is a recent change that does not allow dogs to be on the premises during the weekly market. It was always a fun family outing, that was outside and the dog(s) could come. Due to a few vendors, dogs are no longer welcome. One vendor in particular went out of their way rather rudely to tell us no dogs were allowed and that we needed to leave or leave the dog in our car (mind you it is the summer and was in the 80's, so that option was out of the question). We politely said that we would leave but asked that there be better signage notifying individuals of the new rule, and pointed out the other 4 dogs at the event at the time. She said there was and that I should get my eyesight checked, and that the other dogs were fine since they were so small (most looked to be pocketbook dogs/smaller than most cats). When I asked where the signage was she pointed to a fallen over sign behind one of the vendors that was not where is could be seen by anyone until someone put it upright again. There were several other dogs there but none were spoken to during our time there, so enforcement of this policy seems to be inconsistent. I hate to say it but it appears to be along the lines of smaller dogs are ok but larger dogs are not.So sad to since there are so many other nice folks there.I love several of the vendor's and their products are amazing, but I'll have to find a different market going forward. I hear Vergennes has a nice one that allows animals to attend.

Great farmers market. More vendors on Saturdays and fewer on Wednesdays.

There wasn't a ton of selection, but given the circumstances it was pretty good. They also had a lot of safety procedures so I felt fairly safe shopping.

It's such a wonderful thing, you be able to shop from local vendors right in Middlebury! The organizers are doing social distancing the right way and it's encouraging to see all the vendors wearing masks!
