I just opened a package of yellow American cheese that I had sliced fresh at the deli counter of my local Harris Teeter in Old Town. It's a half a pound messy pile of unusable bits of cheese instead of slices.

I find the prices at this location to be really expensive. The employees at self check out are generally really helpful. Not a wide selection of organic fruits, and products are often picked over and the store is always crowded.

It is an amazing grocery store overall, due to the following reasons: 1. Good discount 2. Giant quantity per unit for meat and fruit 3. Friendly staff members 4. A lot of different variety that you could choose from. 5. No long lines in the cashiers. 6 open until quite late during the night and open very early in the morning. Overall, I highly recommend this location. As a matter of fact, some of the fresh-produce it is selling has a price tag that is lower than costco, and I think it is really a good deal, maybe the best deal you can find in the area. I bought a lot of stuffs from this location. There has been only one occasion that the quality of the food (fruit) had some issue. But the problem was nicely resolved and the manager offered an exchange for the problematic item. Overall, my experience with this location is quite positive, and I recommend everyone to take a try.

While this Harris teeter is normally stocked well with items, do NOT utilize their express pick up option. Literally every time I use it they mess something up. This time the personal shopper told me she couldn't find certain produce items like green onion, tomatoes and ginger. I parked my car and went in to grab some Truly because I forgot to order it and sure enough everything the personal shopper said she couldn't find, was RIGHT THERE! But the worst was the shopper clearly didn't even look to see if the strawberries were good bc I could look right at it and see numerous moldy strawberries. I keep saying it's just a one off situation but it's not and I will no longer use this Harris Teeter for express shopping. They need to train their "personal shoppers" a little bit better!

Great selection of items, love their produce. Found everything on my shopping list. Friendly checkout person. I'm up here temporarily, wish we had a Harris Teeter.

I've repeatedly observed store employees fail to enforce the mask requirement among customers. So I'm done spending money here.

Never go to Harris Teeter in Old Town. They were extremely unprofessional leaving a note on the back of my order saying "happy birthday b****** I tried to tell the manager and she tried to make excuses saying they practice their handwriting. I said it was extremely unprofessional and asked for a full refund, and she didn't want to give it to me at first, but I refused to keep it; who knows what they did to it. The manager seemed upset that I didn't want to take the cake because she had to throw it away. After that, she called the bakery managers and they apologized and offered me a free cake. I ordered a vanilla cake with whipped frosting, asked for that, to get home and had chocolate cake with regular frosting...disappointing. I ordered the cake at 12PM for 5PM same day and they still couldn't get it right. My son's 5th birthday was disappointing. From here on out, I'm making my own cakes.

This store specifically has waged war against the anti-racist movement, "Black Lives Matter." If you support change...avoid this store. Employees and Asst. manager allow their employees to bully people of color. To add insult to injury, this store routinely has long lines, sub par produce, and higher prices. Rip off report! You have been warned.

It is unbelievable how poor they are on Covid safety measures. It is like they have not had any training. At least two employees had no masks or they were on their chins. And they don't seem to understand the concept of social distancing- several passed by me within 2 feet when it was easy to go around. This increases risk and is a poor reflection of management!

Go there if you don't care about getting COVID-19! I saw a woman without a face mask and expressed my surprise and concern to an associate at the self check out area. She said I could talk to the manager but he probably won't do anything about it. Really??????This translates to management not caring about the health and safety of their customers. I find this dismissive behavior very disturbing. Didn't the governor make himself clear about wearing a face covering inside grocery stores? They either don't have a television set or don't understand English. I will not shop there again and highly suggest you stay away too if you want to stay COVID free.

In light of recent events involving an employee violating social distancing rules and verbally harrassing one of my neighbors, I refuse to shop here in the future until this situation is handled appropriately. All employees at this location and elsewhere should be given sensitivity training and a close examination of corporate culture.

Harris Teeter needs to teach it's employees that customers come in with a diverse array if skin colors, ethnicities, genders, political ideologies, religions, and nationalities. One don't have to age or like any of that, but while working, keep your opinions on the matter to yourself. I will not shop there. I'll just bop over to Trader Joe's our Whole Foods the next time I'm in Alexandria.

Ok- yelp removed my review stating I didn't have first hand experience with the racist incident. I do have first hand experience because I called the store and complained. When a black man wearing a BLM tshirt gets harassed by an employee and the management says let's agree to disagree to the victim- I choose to call them out. Let's see if you take this review down too . Makes you wonder about Yelp ...

In light of the recent events, I was shocked to read the way an employee behaved to an African American customer in the store by saying that it's not "black lives matter" it's "all lives matter" and we all know that in that response lies the problem. Won't be shopping here till the manager and employees educate themselves better and treat people better. Add to this their botched handing of COVID and you have two good reasons to not shop here.

So disappointed. This is my local store and I am there often. However, I just learned of a racist employee and store manager and their failure to embrace the #BLM Movement. HT Corporate needs to train and support change at the associate level - this should be treated as a crisis of corporate culture requiring immediate action.
