We began shopping at the Safeway on Richmond Highway (now closed) and decided to visit the Safeway on Van Dorn in Alexandria. The Van Dorn Safeway was clean and well stocked. Of course the COVIF-19 quasi-pandemic reeked its havoc on all businesses. Since March of 2022, we shop at the Giant supermarket in the same center as the Van Dorn Safeway.

Used to be nice when first opened. Now, smells kind of funny and is, in my opinion, very dirty, dirty, dirty. Workers at registers are great, friendly, and always polite. Have come across many items that are expired on the shelves. Check the expiration dates while shopping!

Stopped at the deli and ordered the spicy chicken sandwiches they had 3 signs up about. I waited 15 minutes. The man wrapping them said they had Mayo and pickles on them and to get the slaw from the deli lady got home, chicken has no spice, it was swimming in Mayo, the slaw is regular and when I cut it in half it's raw in the center. Really disappointing. If I'd wanted a regular chicken sandwich I would have gone to the KFC drive though. Totally disappointed.

Pick Up & Go Service @ Kingstowne Safeway: It's faster to just go inside and buy your groceries. Only half the items I purchased and were charged for were brought to my vehicle. I ended up going into the store to re-buy everything on my order. I also found items from my order that were marked as out of stock. Long story short I wasted more time trying to correct the mistakes, rebuying my groceries, and now I have to fight for a refund of my online order during normal business hours.

One of the nicest Safeway's I've been to. It's almost on bar with your typical Harris Teeters. The only thing that's odd about it is that there is no place to put the carts, so if you're a decent human being you'll return it in front of the store. Sadly, a lot of people leave them scattered in the parking lot.

At this point Virginia is still under "Covid-19" . This should not impact the quality of their fried chicken pieces. We had their 8 chicken pieces several times before, but never 'leathery', no taste chicken pieces. I asked the sales person if they were freshly made? She answered 'yes' . She filled the order, I held the package in my hand ... surprise : it was lukewarm. Therefore they just could not have come from the fryer! Actually they may have been heated twice, hence the leathery look and taste, bland. Buyer be aware, if the coating has fallen off the chicken piece, the piece looks tight, brown, leathery, the chance is the product is not fresh. Thanks, but no thanks. I do like Safeway, however I do like freshly made products and safe food. I also do like frozen ice cream, which I wanted to buy this day.... the ice cream display did have only few choices left (15 oz containers) and most of those were soft to the touch. ?? Wonder what had happened ?

Had no issues with the groceries until their produce came home looking janky and molded. Not all the produce I bought was bad but anything like the onions and lemons that come in the bags have been rotten or had mold on them. Sorry to say but won't be coming back here again.

I stopped in here this Saturday very early. There wasn't a line outside which was great. I purchased some microwavable items - Kraft Deluxe Macaroni and Cheese, and Aunt Jemima Pancake on the Go. I like the NEW Aunt Jemima product best. 1) I like using 70 exact seconds on the microwave per their specific instructions; 2) the result is a perfect semi soft pancake in a jar. I enjoy microwave Mac and Cheese too but it's been out for awhile. Overall great store in this updated shopping plaza.

This is a convenient location for a grocery store and Safeway has great prices and sales on various items sometimes. With that said, this location consistently has expired items across the entire store. It's almost gross. From deli mean to condiments to non refrigerated drinks, to chips and so much more. I have occasionally stopped here over the last year for convenience sake and each time I get home and the food is expired. The consistency over such a long period of time suggests this is not isolated and this location has awful quality control. Always check the expiration date on your groceries if you visit here.

Avoid Kingstowne Safeway. We are not clear on how they are doing this but the store overcharges. Even when we review the receipt, there is something very wrong. We buy the same groceries at any other store in the area and Safeway is ALWAYS at least $50 more. Such a shame Shoppers Food Warehouse had to close. It was the best! ERCummings

I've been going to the Safeway in Kingstowne, VA for over 20 years. They have pretty flower arrangements and great bakery items. Today I stopped by there to pick up an arrangement for a family member in the hospital. While we were picking an arrangement, my son accidentally knocked an arrangement over in the case. I immediately started picking up the flowers to alert the woman at the florist desk when someone walked over and started shouting at me. I had no idea who it was until I realized it was the woman at the florist counter. She kept saying I wasn't supposed to touch anything, I was ruining her flowers, etc. i explained my son had accidentally knocked over a vase and I was trying to help by cleaning up. She kept yelling and cursing at me. I asked her to stop yelling and cursing at me. She kept interrupting, yelling and cursing. Btw, this was all in front of my son. I asked to speak with a manager. She insisted she was the manager. I asked to speak with her boss. At that point, I went to customer service. The lady there was kind and offered an arrangement for free. I have never been treated by a store employee like that my entire life. I am appalled that she would speak to anyone that way. I have many choices in the area for groceries and flowers. It will be quite some time before I go back.

It feels weird to be reviewing a grocery store....but this place is amazing. Moving here from the Midwest, it has been really hard to find a good grocery- and this place doesn't disappoint. The store is really big, and has a Starbucks inside- which is awesome. They have a nice deli selection, including hot soups, take & bake pizzas, and an olive bar. Their bakery selection is much bigger than other Safeway locations, and the bread I bought today was super fresh. This Safeway has a massive wine & beer selection, it honestly reminds me of some of the Wegmans stores. They also have a really nice meat case, with a lot of beef, chicken, and seafood. And their produce selection is also great. It's one of the few places where you can truly get everything in one trip.

This review is about the hiring process at this grocery store. I applied for a night crew clerk position. I was told I was not qualified because I do not have experience ordering, stocking, and rotating products on the shelves. I understand I am overqualified to work as a night crew clerk position considering I worked in the corporate world for more than ten years however, I am unable to find other unemployment. The recruiter will not consider you as a candidate for a job opening unless you know someone who is already working for Safeway. I do not think this company embodies fair hiring practices.

Went in looking for a nice New York Strip as I had in the past. Only ones available were bone in or "thin cut". Changed my mind and bought tenderloin at just under $20/ lb. Got home and discovered silver skin had not been trimmed. Called to complain--all they said was bring in the receipt. I expect more at those prices. As a post script the home trimmed steaks were delicious. Really good meat-- but their butchers need to do better.

We did drive up service for our groceries, so my husband could get home sooner to help me with our newborn, and all of the spots were filled by regular customers. He called the number over and over to have them come out with the groceries. After 10-15 minutes of calling, he finally went inside. Nobody apologized to him and he took the groceries out to the car and loaded them himself. We definitely won't be using this service again or going back to this location.
