Squash-a-Penny is a very unique shopping experience. It’s an old general store packed full of amazing vintage advertising and so many other great and unusual pieces. There is A LOT to look at so be prepared, you can easily spend an hour or two exploring and still not see everything. If you’re a first time visitor, it can be a little overwhelming with the sheer volume of stuff. With that said, Squash-a-Penny is one of the few places in Richmond I consistently find something great to bring home every time I stop in. In my opinion, everything is reasonably priced. The store is now open by appointment only on weekends and just make sure to leave your technology in the car.

Website had saturday hours, then you get there and it says call for an appointment.Doesn't appear as though it is ADA friendly either. Better places in Port royal, Ashland and Mechanicsvill that normal operating hours.

What a fun find on a Sunday! I had heard about this place and took the chance when we were in the area to check it out. By appointment only, which is great for one on one experience with the owner. She works hard and has been finding amazing treasurers for decades. If you like antique finds, check this place out. I'll be back for sure!

Stumbled on this odd looking curiosity filled antiques store in Doswell, VA while taking a gps detour on traffic jammed Interstate 95 on a sunny afternoon. The yard seems filled with stuff, art, and funny stuff. All in all, the place looks interesting and could be a treasure trove.

Highly recommend this business. We had such a great experience, the owner is very helpful and so nice. There is a lot to see and it is a very unique opportunity. We will be back and am looking forward to all the hidden treasures. It is pretty simple, call and make an appointment, it is a $10 fee to get in which you get back if you purchase some $10 or more. We cannot express how great this place is!

The most special place in the world, owned and operated by a visionary artist who is a wonderful person. I could not say enough good things about this establishment.

My husband and I drove over an hour to get here. We have been several times in the past but imagine our surprise when were advised that an appointment was needed. Then she said that we could come in for $10.00 each and we could have the whole shop to ourselves for an hour. I can see maybe an appointment, but there is nothing on the website that states one is needed. Who ever heard of charging admission to an antique shop. We turned around and left. Sadly, we will not be going back.

Way too over priced for items. It's appointment only and $10 a person but goes to your purchase if you buy. Owner is super paranoid about phones. There is SO much stuff. Like so much that if you're above the normal size adults you will knock down things in the store. It's just too much stuff, where it was a turn off. It's also super dark so if you bring your flash light.

Yep, here's your dream antique store. Pull up go in Close the door behind you and you are in the past in so many ways. You need 2 hours and plenty of money! The place is loaded with ooze and ahhs! It's Appt. only now and we were able to get in and we loved it. Suzanne is a really nice lady that is very smart by keeping it that way! She finds the neatest antiques for you to find in her store! You won't be disappointed!

Wonderful place! So many neat and unique antiques. The owner is very friendly and accommodating. Store is only open by appointment but it’s a wonderful shopping experience and the owner is very welcoming. Due to the amount of awesome stuff, she does ask that you leave bags in your car. I will shop here again and again!

Haven't been here in over 10 years, but so glad to have gone back to this most delightful slice of Americana! It is only open by appointment and admission is $10 per person per hour (two hour maximum on weekends). Admission is discounted off of purchases. This is not your average antique shop. Everything has been purposefully curated. You will have a hard time taking it all in during your one hour appointment.

Wonderful place, we will be coming back if not for the merch, just for the bubbly nature of the owner. Lots of rare oddities and antiques that you wont see anywhere else. The owner does appreciate discretion. They were upfront that they dont do technology, out of respect for their establishment we obliged, and were not disappointed! No photos or phone use. They have all right to prefer that, so please ignore the low starred reviews by those that don't understand.

This place used to be welcoming and funky. You would think that right now (Feb 2022) that they would be clamoring for business. People clearly in the place, but the parking lot is roped off, and you have to call for an appointment? They obviously don't want any business.

Truly fantastic. You have to make an appointment but so so so worth it. The owner is amazingly sweet, with a great sense of humor. Antiques and baubles and so much to look at. 100% worth the visit.
