This is absolutely one of Suffolk's hidden jems. Have attended several art openings and all of the works were amazing. If you have not visited the museum yet you owe it to yourself to do so. While you are there pick up an application for membership so that you will be advised of all of the great events that they have there.

As an artist I’m so glad I found my niche here in Suffolk! Plenty of opportunities to showcase my artwork, and a safe environment for kids art camps and classes! Huge asset to our community.

Elders and caregivers enjoyed the quilts at Suffolk Art Gallery yesterday. It was a perfect backdrop for our Tidewater Arts Outreach 'Great American Songbook' singalong. Kudos to Suffolk Dept of Parks and Rec and Suffolk Art League public/private partnership.

Super awesome gallery and art league. One of the better gems hidden away in Suffolk but not for long! Keep up the great work.

"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up." --Pablo Picasso Most people here do not know about the Suffolk Art League (SAL)--even I was unaware of it, until a friend told me. SAL is part of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, and it started in 1976--here in Suffolk. Their main goal is to educate the community about the arts. Like other art programs, SAL needs government funding, business contributions, and members. One of the advantages of membership is a discount on classes. There are many classes, workshops, and even a summer day camp. One of their popular event is Art Days throughout the summer. They have two groups: ages 5-8 years old (Thursdays from 10-11:30 a.m), and 9-14 years old (Thursdays from 1-3 p.m.). Each person is $1 per class; what a great experience for kids, and inexpensive to boot! Remember to register 30 minutes prior to the class. Here is a sample of their arts and crafts: CLASSES Precious Metal Clay & Fused Glass Beginning Crochet Pastels Quilting Clay Birdfeeder Workshop EVENTS Poetry, Pose & Pizza EXHIBITIONS Suffolk Quilters Guild Triennial If you're interested, then check out their website (www.suffolkartleague.org) or stop by SAC. Sign up for class and/or become a member; let your creative side come out!
