December 2023 by heather I.
Hello, my name is Heather. I was recently a patron at your Met Market, 100 Mercer St location at around 7:30pm, Thursday 21st, evening. I work at a restaurant in the area and decided to stop by for some last minute holiday shopping. As I was browsing in the skin care section, I started to notice that there was a man following me. I kept hearing a clicking sound as he followed me and I realized that he had a camera on the front of his vest. He was dressed in sweats and baggy pants, with some sort of tactical vest. I thought he was some random creep, just trying to take photos of women in public. He freaked me out so I took some video of him. I quickly walked around the back of him and saw that it said "Security" on the back of his vest. I was then extremely confused. I didn't know if he worked for Met Market or somewhere else, or if he was just some weirdo wearing a vest that says "security" so that he can get away with photographing women. I didn't know what was going on so I cut my grocery trip short and hurried up to pay and get out of there. As I was leaving I noticed that he was standing at the front of the store. I thought that maybe I should let management know that he was acting strangely so I asked to speak to the manager on my way out. When I talked to her, she told me that a loyal customer had complained saying that I looked "suspicious" and so she had him follow me! I was ASTOUNDED! I am a middle aged, non descript, average looking lady with brown hair. I was wearing a navy blue down jacket, jeans, and brown Frye boots. I have absolutely no idea what it was about my appearance or behavior that could have caused management or any customer to think that I was being odd. I have gone over and over my grocery trip a thousand times in my head trying to figure out what I could have done to elicit this reaction. The manager was extremely rude to me. She kept saying over and over that he didn't film me and when I told her that I heard a shutter clicking and that I have video of him following me, she became vehement that I must delete the video. She kept saying over and over that I'm not allowed to film her or the staff there. I asked her if it was Met Market policy that staff can film and follow patrons but that we can't film back when we feel afraid that some random guy (who ended up being staff) is filming us without permission. Our argument got so heated that I offered my purse up for the security guy to look in. He found nothing, of course. And instead of apologizing, they both doubled down and said, well "someone" said you looked suspicious so we were just doing our job. I have never been so insulted and embarrassed in my life. I have no idea why these people chose to harass me and insinuate that I'm a thief even after they looked through my belongings and found that I, in fact, did not take anything. They made a huge mistake and instead of apologizing, they continued to be rude and couldn't even make eye contact with me as I demanded to know what it was about me that made them think I was a thief. They just kept mumbling that it wasn't them it was a "customer". So I want to ask, is it Met Market policy to have vigilante customers that go around randomly reporting fellow patrons to staff to be harassed and followed? How does this reporting system work? What specifiers denote that someone looks "suspicious"? I think that all of your patrons have a right to know these specifiers before they head into your store if this is a policy of yours. We also need to know that we cannot browse in peace as it may be mistaken for being "suspicious". Needless to say, and I know you don't care because you are a multi-million dollar company, but I will not be going to Met Market or any of the other stores that your parent company owns. This experience was so incredibly embarrassing and humiliating. I'm just a run of the mill, tax paying citizen, who just needed some freakin chocolates and face cream for stocking s

Title: Disappointing Experience, Unprofessional Staff I visited Metropolitan Market in Sammamish today, and unfortunately, my experience was incredibly negative. I had high hopes for a quick grocery run and a bite for my son after his lacrosse practice. We ordered a prime rib sandwich, only to discover it contained horseradish mayonnaise, which wasn't mentioned on the menu. The staff at the deli counter were unhelpful and argumentative when we asked for a remake. Their response, especially towards my son with allergies, was disappointing. Even after showing them the menu with no mention of mayonnaise, they continued to argue. To make matters worse, when I sought a refund for the subpar sandwich, I was confronted by Kimberly, who aggressively questioned whether I had paid for my groceries. It was an embarrassing and uncomfortable encounter until I requested a manager, only to find out Kimberly was one. No apology was given for the false accusations. Finally, the deli manager stepped in, genuinely apologized for the unfortunate experience, and offered to remake the sandwich at no cost. Her professionalism was a stark contrast to the rest of the staff, and it somewhat salvaged the situation. Overall, the staff at Metropolitan Market in Sammamish mishandled the situation, creating a series of unpleasant events. The lack of attention to allergies, unprofessional behavior, and false accusations make it impossible to give more than one star.

This is directed towards the bakery- I stopped in on 11/19/23 at 7ish am to pick up a small cake for my dads 60th birthday. I asked a gentleman in the bakery section if they could just write 60 on top of the cake with frosting. He was very kind and said yes absolutely. But then handed the task off to a very obnoxiously rude girl, that while listening to him tell her what I wanted she looked irritated and bothered. She took the cake, came back to me and said it's a little crooked but I drew some dots on it, hope that's fine, and walked away. It looked like a 6 yr old was practicing writing numbers. How disappointing. Please please please, for the love of customer service, hire adults that actually care. This is the 3rd time I've had issues with the bakery people at this location, and it's all been younger ladies. The attitudes are trash.

great unique products and friendly staff. Also great wine selection- nothing close to what you would find at your Safeway or QFC.

Great organized store and produce but cashier Jeffrey H. doesn’t seem to be a cashier who wants to be a cashier. A simple chat seems to be confrontational, just maybe an off day I believe. “Is this lane open?” answered by “Why would I be here then?!” Thanks MM QA.

Metropolitan Market is the closest grocery to where I live and usually has what I want for a premium price.I’m not sure exactly when the liquor policy changed, but specific items (not by cost) require a store clerk to treat customers like criminals. Wine worth hundreds is fine to pick up, but some rum around 25$ - oh no! - has to be taken up by a clerk. Please reverse this idiotic policy. It is already annoying enough needing a clerk to unlock the liquor cabinet.

Yes, expensive as all hell... But still a great place. Open until 11pm and very convenient location. They have great bakery items, especially "The Cookie" that is always served warm. They have a great deli too. Very tasty food. Service is always great. They take you right to where you need to go.

I love this grocery store. It is a little more pricy, but the quality is unbeatable! Their cookies are the best! I call them 2 day cookies, because it takes 2 days to eat them. I stopped by for a cookie and walked to the seattle center fountain to eat it. Initially, I wasn't sure why everyone was looking at me... then I realized they were eyeing my cookie! Don't forget the milk! And extra napkins! *the warm chocolate cookie does have walnuts for those with allergies.

Expensive, but the quality is better than anything else nearby. The most frustrating thing is getting help at the liquor cabinet. You have to hunt around and find someone to open it. I’ve left several times and purchased liquor elsewhere due to being unable to find anyone to open the case. They should really install some sort of alert mechanism so customers don’t spend ten minutes wandering the area waiting for help. Posting this ten minutes into standing next to the spirit case.

I always come here at Thanksgiving time to get real pumpkin for homemade pumpkin pie. They have delicious produce and it's the only place around Queen Anne I am aware of that sells these pumpkins.

The best tale to demonstrate Met Market's impeccable service: A long time ago I forgot my wallet and only realized after the cashier rang up all my food. The gentleman let me take my shopping and trust that I'd call and pay over the phone when I got home. Incredible that he had the autonomy to do this and this willingness to. Saved me a frustrating trip home and made me a loyal customer. Thanks to the the employee in question and to Met Market.

Absolutely rude cashier's. Snobby entitled, and just plain rude. Bought some sushi that had crunchy rice and was berated by the front end and made to feel criminal for returning it. The manager was great. Only one professional. Spend thousands here. Won't be back. The rest the staff are helpful and knowledgeable, but please do something about your cashier's. I'm not the only one who thinks so.

Mixed feelings about this place. In general, it’s a clean and efficient store. The loss prevention team is awesome and I love some of their storebrand products (like the mineral water)On the other hand, they clearly market themselves as a premium or high-end grocer, but in practice I have found that this could not be further from the truth.Ignoring the fact that random products are often egregiously overpriced for no reason, I have encountered numerous issues with their produce, meats, and prepared foods over the years. It took three weeks for them to remove the expired elk from the freezer after I told them about it. I have noticed zero qualitative difference between the produce here and the produce from QFC (which is usually significantly cheaper). I’ve also twice had to return their prepared sandwiches.Look, I don’t mind if a grocery store is going to be expensive. It’s a schtick. I get it. But this location’s mask is starting to slip, and it’s becoming harder and harder to ignore the poor value proposition. I haven’t been to any other Metropolitan Market locations so I won’t comment on those.

Best market in the northwest. Only way to explain it is the Cadillac or Mercedes benz of grocery store. Fruit quality no body comes close.
