I highly recommend Ascent for both group classes and personal training. I came in for a tour with Marissa and they immediately made me feel super comfortable. As someone who struggles to have a healthy relationship with food and exercise I was very intentional in seeking out a place where I could get stronger to allow me to be better at the physical activities I enjoy or would like to enjoy and not walk into a super diet, gains and bros kinda gym. I didn't want to be sold a diet or had my body commented on or be surrounded by that kind of talk. I struggle with staying consistent with activity and having classes that are laid back and have cool people while simultaneously being challenging is 100% my jam even if weights aren't yet my friend. I did my personal training sessions with Cam- they recommend training first so you are taught how to correctly do their most common exercises while being taught how to avoid injury etc. it's definitely not the cheapest gym you can find, but the quality and size (not too big or overwhelming) really make it worth it. He was really kind and definitely didn't mind having to repeat things or coaching me through more challenging things. I've since committed to paying for group classes once a week (between their hours, living 30ish minutes away and my schedule between work and dance, I didn't want to set myself up for failure by going to twice a week right away. The classes I've been to so far have been taught by Rachel and she's been a great coach. Looking forward to growing more into the Ascent fam. Also appreciate that they are a very inclusive group and very friendly to all humans (and dogs).

Very friendly trainers and very responsible prices for group sessions. Personal training can be a bit expensive, but it was well worth it.

Joining Ascent has truly been one of the best things I have done in the past few years. This is a gym like no other I've ever been to. The environment is incredibly supportive, and the workouts are varied and challenging. Every class begins with a short stretch session where everyone introduces themselves with names, pronouns, and the answer to a fun little intro question. Most workouts have a warm-up, a main strength section, and then a "push" at the end which is generally a mix of cardio and strength. I have learned a ton of strength training moves I didn't know before, like deadlifts, bench press, cleans, and snatches. The coaches offer individualized attention and if there is ever a move that you don't want to do, they will offer alternatives. At the end of every class I feel strong and energized. The workouts vary depending on the day of the week, so I attend 3 nights a week and get a different workout each time. The gym space is beautiful - large front windows, a huge exposed brick wall, and the floor is a big soft mat (like the kind you would have at a rock climbing gym). Some workouts are more strength focused, and some are more cardio focused. They also have multi-week series where for instance if you attend every Tuesday night, you build up weight on a certain move and track your progress. The owner and coaches are all incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. I literally could not recommend this gym more highly! It is one of the best things about my life here in Tacoma. Run, do not walk, to sign up for Ascent!!!

I love this gym and community so much. The I always look forward to going to Ascent, whether I'm feeling hyped and excited to move my body or struggling to show up, I know there is always space for me at Ascent. I enjoy the variety of movements, efficient use of time, and most importantly the welcoming and encouraging community.

I have been a member at Ascent for a month now, and have been incredibly grateful for the coach’s consistently thoughtful, kind, and instructive support through my first few weeks. I think I’ve had a class with every coach now, and while each has their own flavor of leading the class, the values of Ascent are clearly the foundation of their leadership.Additionally, I’m grateful for the way I always feel well watched over and cared for. I specifically wanted a gym where I would learn proper form, and the team continues to deliver class after class. I’m so glad I finally joined.

I loved working out at Ascent while I was briefly living in Tacoma. I felt instant community as the gym really feels like a come as you are space. All the trainers are so welcoming. It’s rare to find a gym that centers queerness and fat acceptance. I worked with Tasheon who is really knowledgeable, fun, and laid back.

This gym is wonderfully inclusive and willing to meet you wherever you are at on your fitness journey. Every staff member I interacted with was warm, helpful and friendly.

Ascent is amazing! I have been attending classes for about a month and I am feeling so much stronger and excited about moving my body already. The instructors provide such good instruction and there are always multiple variations for each movement so you have options that work best for you. It is also a safe and non-judgmental space which is so much better than any other gym I have been to! For the first time in a long time I look forward to my workouts rather than dread them.

Love this gym! This is the first gym membership I've had where I have actually shown up consistently and that is in large part due to the inclusive and supportive atmosphere of Ascent. (You don't have to get a membership - you can buy classes individually or as a package, if that fits your needs better.) I love the fact that I don't have to plan my own workout but I'm encouraged to pay attention to my body and challenge myself (or take it a little easier!) appropriately.
