My hair got hacked up. I went in with long hair I could wear curly or straighten. Asked for as little to be cut off as needed because I'm growing my hair out to donate. I left with hair that doesn't all get held by a scrunchie, way over thinned, and horrible layers. I'd call it a mullet. It's too thin to do anything with now (I have unreasonably thick hair). Then when I put it in a pony, instead of curling and looking nice, it doesn't fall right, with a long piece in the middle. So, down, I have a mullet. Pulled back, I get this weird rat tail effect. I had my kids scheduled. I went with my better judgement and skipped it so she didn't ruin their hairs, too.
I think this is a case of old dogs not learning new tricks. She claims 30 years experience, but some of my "layers" are like shelves. Cut in a way that I would cut hair, not a professional. It was a few days ago. It has seriously made me very unhappy having SUCH a horrible cut. Some folks just need to set the shears down and never look back. I noticed how bad it was before I left her chair, but I didn't dare ask her to fix it. Who knows how little would have been left if I had!
Even my husband asked "what's up with your hair? There's something off about it." And he isn't the noticing type.
Requested style: I told her I'm growing out to donate. She mentioned they don't care for layers. She gave me the most dramatic, horrible layers ever. With the shortest one being very noticeable and too short. She said "start layers at chin," I said, "No. I don't want to get rid of that much." It's like I was a mute and she heard nothing I said. The decent thing would be to offer me a refund, but I can't imagine that happening.
Hair type: I have curly, thick, coarse hair. Most people can't handle it and I wish they would just admit that instead of ruining it like just happened.

Absolutely the BEST cosmetologist in town. She's a whiz with the shears, has a great eye for color and is just an all around good person. I appreciate that she's in a stand alone shop so there isn't alot of noise and confusion with people going in and out and little kids running around.She uses Surface brand products that are so much better for your hair. The shampoo and conditioner she uses are guaranteed gluten free, vegan, 100% organic and free of the harsh chemicals so many products rely on to do the job.I've never been unhappy or dissatisfied with any service I have had done by her. Perms. Styling. Colors. Really long hair or short, she has ably taken care of it all.

I’ve never had a wash before but I really enjoyed it and the cut looks perfect! Very friendly! Got me in right away! Couldn’t ask for a better experience! Oh and she doesn’t charge extra for the wash! Thank you Nancy!

I have gone to Nancy Grover of Shear Magic for many years and I have never been less than 100% satisfied with any service I have had done. She's a whiz with scissors and has a great eye for color. The perms I have gotten, 2 a year on average, have always been well executed and perfectly time. I initially just had a single hair color done to even color and cover my grey hair. I've now evolved to three colors. And I LOVE them! Nancy suggested the best colors for my complexion. Without her confidence in what she recommended and the trust I have in her skills, I would still be doing just a single color and missing out on all the compliments I get. And, she uses Surface brand shampoos and conditioners that are guaranteed to be 100% organic, vegan and gluten free and are SOOO much better for your hair. I know for a fact that kids love her and are never fearful or distressed in her chair. My own grandsons enjoyed their hair cutting experiences. The youngest one had very fine, flyaway hair that is incredibly difficult to cut evenly without it looking choppy and uneven. Nancy cut it perfectly every time. I've blathered on long enough.
