Dunn-Edwards Opens 17 New Stores Across Northern California

In the latest move of its growth plan, leading paint maker Dunn-Edwards just opened 17 new retail locations throughout Northern California. This expansion of physical stores boosts the company's footprint in the region by over 50%.

The new stores are spread across major cities like San Francisco, Oakland, Santa Cruz, Cupertino, and Chico. They'll give contractors and home painters better access to Dunn-Edwards' high-quality products and expert color matching services - including matching the popular "Swiss Coffee 23" color from the recently closed Kelly-Moore brand.

The expansion caps an exciting time for the nearly 100-year-old company. With its 100th anniversary in 2025, Dunn-Edwards is strengthening its market position through planned growth focused on better serving pros, homeowners and employees.

"For nearly a century, Dunn-Edwards has prioritized our hardworking employees, contractors, and customers. Through recent industry challenges, we believe more than ever that our people are our most valuable asset," said COO Monte Lewis.

The closure of fellow California paint maker Kelly-Moore left many loyal workers and painters without jobs. So Dunn-Edwards moved quickly, hiring around 125 former Kelly-Moore employees across the 17 new locations.

"The sudden closure of Kelly-Moore devastated hundreds of loyal employees and impacted painting professionals across the region. By moving quickly and decisively, we're hopeful our expansion will provide relief for those who have been affected, building trust with new and existing employees and customers for years to come," Lewis stated.

Beyond hiring talented staff, the fresh set of stores ensures plenty of supply of Dunn-Edwards' premium architectural and industrial coatings for local painting pros. The sites also make the company's top products easily accessible to area homeowners doing DIY projects.

While growing its Northern California presence, Dunn-Edwards is expanding nationwide too. It currently has 174 company-owned stores across the Southwest including recently opened in Boise and Phoenix, with plans underway to grow its authorized dealer network in states like California, Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas.
