The Maidu Museum & Historic Site is a captivating destination that offers visitors a rich cultural experience. The small but high-quality museum showcases accurate and insightful exhibits on the local Native American cultures, curated in cooperation with the people they represent. Outside, a scenic loop trail winds through oak woodlands, featuring professional interpretive panels that educate visitors about the native uses of the land and local wildlife, including the occasional strutting wild turkey. The trail also highlights the intriguing petroglyphs, which can be difficult to make out in certain lighting conditions. Guests can explore the grounds through guided or self-guided tours, immersing themselves in the fascinating history and natural beauty of the site. The museum and its knowledgeable staff provide a wealth of information, making it an excellent place for all to learn about the area's heritage.
This was truly a beautiful experience that includes a walk around the museum where you will see pestle holes, petroglyphs and a wild turkey or two strutting through the fields. Don't miss it!
