Destrehan Plantation is the oldest documented plantation home in the lower Mississippi Valley. Our costumed historical interpreters will intrigue you with stories of those who lived on the plantation free and enslaved. After the tour, guests can gaze upon an original document signed by Thomas Jefferson, view a folk-life demonstration, and self-explore the dependency buildings, such as a slave cabin with enslavement registry, an overseer's cabin with our 1811 Slave Revolt Exhibit. Our state-of-the-art Legacy Room showcases original documents and artifacts from family members. Beautiful Live Oak trees draped in Spanish Moss live on our grounds and make a memorable photo opportunity. Visit our gift shop with hand -made items by local artisans.
