Nicolette was amazing. Friendly, outgoing, attentive to our needs.The ribmeat BBQ sammich was very good.The vibe there was chill, with 89s alternative playing softly in the background.
Early in the day, Ugly Dog may look like just another bar, until it magically transforms into a raucous live music joint. Menu-wise, the main dishes can be counted on four fingers: braised beef brisket; pork spare ribs; pulled pork; and boned chicken breast, all soaking up the house's above-average Arkansas barbecue sauce, and all cooked slowly for 13 hours before they reach your table. The kitchen also puts out respectable burgers, especially the Creole burger with hot smoked sausage. You can also find a respectable loaded baked potato and a chili-and-coleslaw topped hot dog. But some of the side dishes prove more notable than the meat they're intended to embellish, such as barbecue chili beans, served in a tall mug with fresh chopped onion, cheddar and sour cream. Be prepared to dine on brightly painted picnic tables over concrete floors and marvel at the old upright piano done in bright primary colors and bedazzled with Mardi Gras beads. Ugly Dog is not about a fancy wine list. Instead, expect beer, football on flat-screen TVs, and hard partying until the wee hours.
