The Lumberjack Tavern is more than just a fun place to grab a drink and a bite to eat, it’s a slice of local history and popular culture. The Tavern was first opened in 1938 as Rose’s Tavern, as was renamed Lumberjack Tavern as a nod to the area’s logging history and the famous lumberjacks. In 1952, it was the site of a famous murder, which inspired the award-winning film Anatomy of a Murder starring Jimmy Stewart. Jeff Daniel’s favorite bar in the UP, the Lumberjack also inspired the Big Bay Shuffle.
Today, you can enjoy a taste of UP craft beer, burgers, hand-cut fries, house-made pizza, and the seasonal menu. The Lumberjack also has onsite accommodations.
Catch owner Jack who'll regale you stories of the bar & Big Bay history.
