I've been a proud member of the Alabaster YMCA since 2009, and it's been a cornerstone for my family and me. Not only have I utilized it as a gym, but my children have also thoroughly enjoyed the camps, pool, sports, and various activities offered. The YMCA has provided a wealth of opportunities for them to learn, play, and grow. What sets this YMCA apart is the sense of community. Each morning, I'm greeted with warmth and friendliness, making my workouts more than just exercise; they're a chance to connect with a big, welcoming family. This sense of belonging and togetherness is what I love most about the Alabaster YMCA. It's not just a facility; it's a community hub that brings joy and wellness to every family that walks through its doors.

So my 3 yo daughter and I arrive at 7Am expecting the daycare to be open. the plan was work out then play basketball. But the daycare wasn't open yet! Not till 8!! No worries!! We will just play basketball today! gotta make lemonade!! I ask permission to play the front desk lady agrees (Laura? Lauren? older woman with thick grey and black curly hair) she lets us pick out ball and we head in she stops us and says if anyone else comes we have to leave (I'm thinking sure a team we'll go but...anyone?? and we have to leave? Whatever I'm making lemonade!!) after watching and making faces at us, calling another coworker over discussing me and my daughter in front of us... then she comes in and tells me we have to go, because we're shooting the ball and actually playing instead of rolling the ball back and forth?? My daughter who is having SO MUCH FUN getting her energy out was never in danger. I believe the rep overstepped her bounds from YMCA into parenting. Don't we all want kids off iPads and actually engaging? Very disappointing. She should have either told us no to playing or advised us that injury wouldn't be their responsibility. Accidents can happen anywhere that's why it's important to play! Play teaches children to move their body use their hands and be better suited for avoiding danger.

Please be very cautious when choosing this place for aftercare or summer camp. My son was using the bathroom located in the red room, and because no one was watching, another boy went in and tried to do inappropiate things with my son because my son was told he couldnt lock the door. They were in the bathroom for 13 minutes before someone discovered the other boy missing. I still dont know what happened in that bathroom. This has apparently, according to my son, happened more than once. The counselor was 2 foot from the bathroom door! unnacceptable! 0 stars

please be careful allowing your child to go here. The counselors do not watch the children thoroughly. My son got touched by another boy that went into bathroom with my son while the counseler was standing there not paying attention. They we're in the bathroom for 13 minutes.

Absolutely horrible facility. They treat the staff and customers however they like and don't post updates when schedules are being changed until the night before or morning of. Don't waste your money here

Horrible management and constantly dirty locker rooms. There are much better, cheaper gyms in Alabaster with much kinder and more helpful staff!! Don’t give these people your money. I had a mix-up with my card and despite paying for a full two-person memberships, was *aggressively* kicked out after having already been there for 30 minutes at the pool, without being given the chance to even explain or resolve the issue! They literally acted like I was a criminal, it’s insane lol. Don’t waste your money.

My oldest daughter went today to use the pool, and the staff were incredibly rude to her just for unknowingly bringing the wrong membership card. I understand wanting to make sure people have a membership, but there’s absolutely no reason to be a rude as they were just for a simple mistake! Rather than simply call me or my husband to verify the account, they kicked her out of the facility. We will not be keeping our membership any longer if this is how you treat paying guests.

The staff is so kind. The gym is we'll equipped. Never too packed. Always super clean.. the machines and equipment are constantly being cleaned by staff. The locker rooms are always clean/being cleaned. Their learn and play ladies are so sweet to my little girl while I work out. They offer great classes. I could go on! Love my gym.

My son is in the nursery at this location and we have loved it. He is always happy and well taken care of. Oh and the teachers in the nursery are fantastic and really connect with and care about each of the children

Staff is super friendly(mostly) and machine are well maintained. Overall the amenities are great! I’m not impressed with some of the trainers they have employed there. I’ve witness on several different occasion the trainers ignoring someone who obviously needed assistance. Whether it being someone having zero knowledge of how to work a piece of equipment or someone not using proper form and packing on too much weight. I mention this because I had to assist these individuals and inform them on proper ways or form. On more than a time or two. I do this because I was once a trainer and I was once at that point when I needed help. I have a bachelor degree in exercise science and have a few different certifications. So maybe I can be a little tough. On the other hand these trainers were all over myself when removed my shoes do a few sets of calves. Makes me wonder how educated these guys are. Regardless of education, that plays no role in seeing a person who needs helps and bypassing them to advise me to put on my shoes.
