One of the coolest historic places I've visited. You can literally go anywhere on site, and the staff was super awesome!

Pretty cool place to visit. Maybe not quite be worth the $10 to walk around, but a fun experience. Can be done in less than an hour.

Great place to visit, I just love wondering around these old forts. The office ladies are so nice.

You are given quite a bit of freedom to explore a lot of the fort. Very little of the fort is barricaded or blocked off from access. I would anticipate spending about an hour to two hours here on average. Prepare for a lot of walking and climbing if you want to do all of the interpretive tour. This fort is best in cooler months when it's not hot. Depending on the season there can be noseeums.

It was ok. Fort Morgan was bigger and liked it better overall. There is a charge to enter where Fort Morgan is FREE. It cost $45 for my family to see it today.

This fort is a very well-preserved piece of history! We enjoyed exploring at our own pace and discovering staircases and tunnels that lead to other parts of the fort. If you're traveling with kids there are plenty of ramps and good staircases to use to get around.Lots of history here and their pamphlet did a good explaining the point of the different buildings and rooms. An interesting piece of history!

Such a neat find. We were exploring Dauphin Island specifically for the beach and decided to stop here. There was plenty of parking and it wasn’t overcrowded. There was a nice little gift shop and museum. The entrance is fee is $10.

Fantastic experience. I highly recommend both Fort Gaines and Fort Morgan on the same trip. Seeing how forts with so much similar history developed differently. The ferry was a nice break between the walking at the forts.Bring water.Price for entry: $10Ticket type: General Admission

We had time to spare before the ferry ride. So we decided to walk down the street towards the aquarium. When we got there, I saw Fort Gaines! It's was $10.00 per person, not sure about kids. They had a small gift shop and another small room with a historical book. You get a map with points of interest. We spend our time exploring and enjoying the views. Also, the restroom was clean.

Absolutely great experience. So glad we went. Probably the oldest place I've been in. Super nice employees. Even had one talking and shooting guns and the cannon.

This was a lot of fun. I love sites like this where you can put your hands on history. We even saw a 8-12 ft alligator in the moat while we were there. My only complaint is that the stairwells are NOT safe for small kids or anyone without sure feet. Avoid those if you or anyone in your party is afraid of heights or is clumsy or younger than 8 or so.

Neat historical site. A nice short walk if you are in the area and won't take too long to see. There is also a group of people who do historical reenactment in the area that added a bit of fun to our visit.
