DeSoto State Park, located on Lookout Mountain in Northeast Alabama, offers a beautiful and family-friendly outdoor experience. The park features many rushing waterfalls, wildflowers, and scenic views that attract visitors year-round. Developed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the park has natural enhancements that have lasted through the years, providing a rustic and charming atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy well-maintained trails suitable for moderate walking, with opportunities to see abundant wildlife, including deer. The park’s facilities, such as the lodge, are clean and functional, offering comfortable accommodations with balconies, a fridge, and a microwave. The lodge’s restaurant is open on weekends with specific hours, serving good food, although breakfast may be less impressive. Guests appreciate the friendly staff and the well-kept grounds, which contribute to a positive experience. The waterfalls tend to be dryer in certain seasons, like fall, but the scenery remains stunning, especially during leaf change in November. Visitors also enjoy exploring the country store and gift shop, often finding unique local items. Overall, DeSoto State Park provides a scenic, peaceful retreat with opportunities for wildlife viewing, hiking, and relaxation, making it a favorite destination for those seeking nature and outdoor adventure.

Best campground we’ve been to. It’s clean and well maintained. Most spots are spread out with plenty of room. Lots to do in the area and some beautiful places to see. The Little River Canyon is pretty spectacular.
