I've used pearl vision for my eye care needs for about 10 years. However it was my first time at this location. I do want to say the staff was friendly. My experience though, was not great. I want to start by saying the upsale to go with procedures that cost additional is outrageous. I've never had this happen anywhere else. It started with dilating my eyes (which is free) otherwise for 40$ the doctor didn't have to dilate my eyes and could view the results through the same machine. I went with dilation. I was not given the sunglasses and sent to the waiting room to wait 10 minutes for dilation. Due to them being busy, I waited 45 minutes while holding my eyes closed because the sun hurt them. During this process other upcharges we mentioned and I declined. I came into this garden dale with a -3.75 prescription which has been my prescription yearly for 3 Years. Everytime I get a yearly eye exam this is the prescription. Now don't get me wrong I'm aware eyes change my have several time over the years but they have never gotten better! So he said they are now a -4.00 great! I can order my contacts. The moment I mention I'm purchasing glasses else wear, and would like my perscription printed. he goes the receptionist starts literally whispering to her and then prints me a prescription that states one eye is -4 one is -3.25 ( my current prescription is -3.75 . How did it go from one eye being worse to now being better? I left , with no sunglasses again after being dilated as they never offered. I called a few days later to express my concern for the last minute change of prescription and also not being able to try on a prescription that low. She mentioned I could come back for a free reexam. I decided to pay out of pocket and go else work, and wouldn't you know my prescription is the first one he gave ne prior to being saying I'd purchase else ware. Fast forward to using my 150$ of contact purchases by my insurance. 3 boxes went over my 150 so I asked for smaller packages she offered me none. Called back 2 days later from a different number and said I was new and wanted to transfer my prescription to purchase contacts from them... funny how I was given and option to buy smaller packages. I understand this is alot, I'm just disappointed with the two situations of pure unhonest and money hungry incidents that occured.

The receptionist and optometrist were great. My problem lies with the company itself. I paid for my glasses and I’ve been waiting for three weeks with no end in sight. DON’T USE THIS COMPANY. If your time is valuable, don’t waste it here.

Appointment set up was simple and easy and eye exam with doctor was educational and most excellent.However as it stands now my son has yet to receive his glasses and it's been one month already.They need to hire more staff!

Inaccurate billing: you pay then they send you a bill because they don’t know how to accurately run insurance, staff does not inform actual cost of services such as other testing until after the full exam, constant messages saying you are overdue for an appt when you are not, etc. multiple issues and have used them several times and each time there are more problems.

The 4 stars is only for the doctor himself. The doctor was awesome. Very thorough and explained a lot to me. However, the checking out process was a hassle. I requested certain "upgrades" that my insurance says it covers, but I was charged for it. My insurance covers the eye exam, itself. But, I was charged for it as well.I was told that my glasses would be in "in about 2 weeks". I am currently at 2 weeks and 2 days and still have heard nothing. I call and nobody answers the phone no matter what time it is. I have left voicemails but they go unanswered. Very frustrating, to say the least.

I would never recommend anyone to come here they are so unprofessional. I have been waiting on my glasses for 15 days now! I been calling and leaving voicemails they never answer the phone so I decided to pop up and they all just sitting at the desk doing nothing it’s know customers in there and they can’t even answer the phone! A white girl told me last week she would call me back never did! This is the worst company ever! I will never come here again!

I hate this place, but it’s the only place that accepts my insurance. They NEVER answer the phone and they never call you back. Ever since they changed from Gardendale eye care to pearl vision, they’ve gone to $&@#

Dr. Chwalek and Maddie were just the best ever! I needed an appointment soon because I ran out of contacts and they got me in and were so kind! Would recommend to everyone

Love this office. Was a previous patient and did not know what to expect. Alicia and Maddie were very helpful. The doctor was very patient and answered all my questions. 100% would recommend!

At first I was so impressed ording my new glasses went wonderfully. Until there was a problem, my lense cracked from corner to corner. I had bought the additional protection plan showed them what happened. The attendant was very pleasant.Took my deductible and told me my new lenses would be a few days. It's three weeks later, three voice messages later, nobody answers the phone or returns the voice message. Very frustrating ?

Fantastic! Wonderful staff, Dr. Chwalek is super nice and easy to talk to, and really made it clear that I was in charge of any decisions made and that we can adjust with no problem. So thankful they have the Optimap, especially since I have anxiety/sensory issues with pupil dilation. Love that scheduling/rescheduling and paperwork is done online instead of over the phone. Glad I found a local optometrist on my first try, and I will be back again next year!

The staff was fine. They weren't particularly helpful. However, the doctor was very sweet. I will say, finding the place is confusing as their automated call directory labels them as Gardendale Eye Care, their automated text reminder calls them Family Vision Eye Care Gardendale, but the building is labeled Pearle Vision.
