I was worried about joining this gym after reading all the negative reviews. I'm very distrustful of Gym's and they're sneaky practices of gaining memberships. But at the moment I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. It is a very nice modern gym and they did not try to pressure sell me. I'll update this review in 6 months.

the staff is always polite, and I feel at home

I joined crunch about 3 weeks ago, I can honestly say I’m very satisfied. They have everything you need and more to meet your goals. The staff is extremely nice and helpful. I changed gyms thinking I would be disappointed and it’s just the opposite, I couldn’t be happier.

I love how clean this gym is compared to some of the others in the area. There is plenty of equipment to choose from and the staff is very helpful! Overall, a great gym and I am really happy they came to the Hoover area, hoping they open up more!

Awesome facility! Great instructors!

Don’t ignore the bad reviews. Golds was wrong, after being dormant, to then sell memberships, personal information and data - and yes, they sent emails. So what. Some didn’t get them, some had contracts that expired, and some weren’t even active members when they decided to go bankrupt and hide from their already unmanageable debts.....If you’re happy at Crunch - great. But I find the practice of charging people that don’t want to go to your gym, even worse. What’s even more frustrating is the manner in which Crunch (Hoover) acts about it. There is never a reason to charge anyone before communicating such. They had a golden opportunity to be the good guy and decide everyday, and at every interaction to be the opposite. Our country is hurting right now - businesses have all the reasons in the world to be helpful right now and those business that don’t understand that - should be shamed!Cancel Crunch

IGNORE THE ANGRY GOLDS MEMBERSWhen golds shutdown in march, I received multiple emails explaining my membership would be transferred to Crunch. I contacted crunch before they opened and they provided my new billing date information and confirmed my account. They were incredibly helpful.Since it opened, the facility has been well maintained. The classes are high energy and fun, and the equipment is top notch. They listen to their members and got more accessories for the different stations, as well as more benches. I see staff constantly cleaning and refilling the bottles at the cleaning stations. Tanning and the hydromassages are nice perks too. While this gym hit some rough spots after opening (hydromassage and tanning beds going down), the staff has been incredibly apologetic and to resolve all issues.I've visited this gym during different times on different days and some staff that deserves recognition includes Krissy (a manager), Arkin, Nick, Landry, a tall dark haired girl, and many others. This place is awesome and they're doing the best they can with mess golds left them with.

Just joined. The gym is very clean. Bathrooms cleaned. Nice new equipment. Spacious. Lots of cardio machines, free weights, etc. has spin, HIIT, and group classes. Tanning and massage beds. Staff is friendly and helpful.

This gym is awesome! Plenty of equipment to use, and they provide a clean, comfortable environment. The staff is very friendly and always available when I have any questions. They have a great protocol on keeping their facility clean, and I’ve noticed their employees repeatedly going around cleaning equipment while I’m there. Also the hydro-massage is the perfect way to end your workout!

I am a former Gold's Gym client and was getting personal training at Gold's in Pelham. I stopped personal training BEFORE Gold's shut down. Nevertheless, Crunch charged my credit card a total of $285, $230 of which was for personal training, and I had never set foot in their gym. I never gave them permission to charge my credit charge. I couldn't care less what arrangement Gold's and Crunch Fitness made. I just know I never gave Gold's permission to give my credit card information to anyone, and I never gave Crunch permission to start charging my card. When I called, they refused to refund my money and said they had a right to continue charging because they had bought the memberships from Gold's. I tried to explain to the lady that I had stopped personal training even BEFORE Gold's shut down. Needless to say, they did not refund my money. Crunch Fitness in Hoover is perpetuating a fraud, plain and simple. I suggest all former Gold's Gym members who had drafts on their credit cards immediately check their statements. Crunch is outright stealing!!!! Believe me, they will not stop until more of us file fraud complaints against them. Stay away from this gym. STAY FAR, FAR AWAY!!!!

This gym is so well laid out and has ALL the amenities you could be looking for!!! The staff is super friendly, shout out to the front desk boy nick who always is looking good! There is all the top of the line equipment, classes like cycling and yoga and there is also a hydro massage and tanning bed/ spray tan areas. Overall very pleased with my experience!!!!!

I was a former Gold's Gym member when COVID-19 hit, and Gold's Gym said they would transfer my membership over to this Crunch Fitness once it was opened. I never received any correspondence from Crunch Fitness about when they would open or when they would start charging for memberships. They instead just decided to charge me for 2 memberships without notice, and even though I contacted them the day after I noticed the $70 charge, the manager insisted that it was impossible to give a refund. When I asked if I could contact someone higher up who could give me a refund, she claimed that she did not know how to contact her boss. This company used sneaky, underhanded tactics to take money from families who are already struggling during a pandemic. HORRIBLE BUSINESS.

Like alot of people here was charged 39.99 without my knowledge after golds closed. I was told golds sent emails letting people know what was done, and I wouldn't be getting a refund. To think the only reason I found this was because they are opening one in Alabaster and I was interested in joining so i was looking at reviews and pictures of other clubs.. I'll drive by everyday on my way to 24e.

I was charged 35.00 dollars without my knowledge for months. Golds gym went under due to Covid they sold my membership to a close gym Crunch. I was not told, I just happened to look at my regions account where I noticed a charge of 35.00 from ABC*Crunchftn. I had to do some research to find where the charge came from. Once I found out I called crunch told them there was fraud on the account. They informed me that golds had given them the membership. I asked for my money back because this went on without my knowledge. They told me no the money could only be added to account funds at there gym. Then they asked me if I was interested in a membership with them after they took my funds without my knowledge. Livid I told them I’d never join there gym. They took money from not only me but a lot of others who went to golds. I know I’m not the only one. This should count as a huge black mark on crunch fitness. They could have asked if I wanted a membership there or sent me an email. But instead they just charged every previous golds members account and refused to give it back.

This gym billed me 8 TIMES what a single membership is from my transfer from Gold’s and WILL NOT refund a penny! My membership was SOLD to Crunch Fitness when Gold’s Gym pulled out of Alabama. A membership signed in 2004. Never updated, never renewed. The e-mail from Gold’s was vague at best about Crunch and the process to PREVENT said charges. I checked to see when an opening date for Crunch was & there was not a date listed till just before their opening in June. I joined another gym 2 years ago so my husband was the ONLY ONE using the Gold’s Membership! I like everyone else, was unaware my credit card had been charged till my July statement, FOR A FAMILY MEMBERSHIP!!!Their lack of conscience and GRAB at money during this time to open & stay afloat is appalling!!! This type of treatment by gyms is why they go out of business so quickly. Good luck to anyone who joins & don’t misstep you agreement because you WILL NOT get any money back.

Awesome new facility, tons of space and courteous staff. 2 floors of workout space, group fitness, and the best spin instructor to boot! Really great gym, especially considering the price.

Absolutely would not recommend Crunch Fitness Hoover due to their unethical business practices. I was a member of Gold's Gym Pelham. Without my knowledge or agreement my membership was transferred to Crunch Fitness Hoover. I noticed a charge from Crunch Fitness on my credit card dated July 20. Called Crunch and spoke with Logan Roberts, General Manager on July 23 around 1:00 pm. He agreed to cancel membership and give refund. On August 4 I followed up with Logan via email. Logan stated that my membership was cancelled but "We were not able to issue a refund". I have never stepped foot in Crunch but they refuse to provide a refund for dues. Do NOT trust these people with your financial info, they are unworthy of your trust.

This gym began charging me three months after Gold’s Gym closed. I did not sign a contract with Crunch Fitness nor did I give them permission to charge my account. They are located no where near my home or work. I have joined another gym and I’m paying membership fees at that gym. When I call, they tell me they will have someone call me back but they never do. This is extremely unprofessional and should be illegal.

Very friendly, location is always clean, and has everything that I need.\ for my workout.

I cancelled my membership at Golds Gym before Crunch Fitness bought the accounts from Golds Gym. Crunch fitness charged my account and doesn't know if I can get a refund? I ask for someone I can speak to in the next 24 hours to resolve this and see about getting the refund, they don't know if there a corporate number or anyone else to contact. So you just decide to charge people for a service they never asked for and won't issue the refund??

Without any correspondence, Crunch started taking $36.99 out of my account without my consent. Once I spoke with the manager, Krissy, she told me that all of the Gold's Gym members were automatically switched over to Crunch, and placed on a re-occurring monthly fee. Krissy refused to refund the money back to my account and told me to contact Gold's Gym (which is permanently closed in Alabama). Super unprofessional. I wouldn't recommend this gym to anyone.

Crunch Fitness is fraudulently charging $40+ a month on my account when I have not set foot in their gym, nor have I signed paperwork; and I have not given them permission to use my banking information. They received my account information because Gold’s Gym sold my account to Crunch Fitness, which is an unsavory business practice for both companies. Will not be doing business with either company any further.
July 2020 by David Rice
Because Gold's sold my membership without my knowledge or consent and because Crunch started billing me forty bucks without warning, my bank account was overdrawn by $60. If Crunch would have bought the Gold's location I would have considered staying. However, thank goodness I'm relocating to another city. They should remember that prosperity without integrity will never work out in the long run.

1. A/C has not been working properly since the opening. I went a few times during the first week and it was not fixed. Two employees confirmed that it has not been working properly. I literally could not have my normal workout due to the temperature at the gym. Not sure why it takes so long to fix it.2. Unable to use Stretch area/yoga mats if class is happening at that time. A deal breaker for me, since I stretch after each workout. 3. Almost no attachments for Cable machines (ropes, handles etc). Wonder if they are coming later.. 3. Staff member that signed me up could not explain what is included in my membership and advised me to look at their website. I understand that the gym is new and so are the employees, but I feel like these are the basics that should be known by the staff. Overall, I would go back if A/C is fixed. But since I have access to few other gyms, I will stick with them for now..

Crunch began auto drafting my account without my permission after supposedly transferring my membership from the former Gold’s. There was zero notification given nor authorization for these transactions. After contacting them, they simply refused to refund my money! They told me to contact Gold’s to dispute, even though they are out of business! The word here is theft.

I have been to Crunch everyday since they opened and love it. Extremely clean and well lit. Tons of equipment and classes. The instructors seem pretty knowledgeable. In my opinion, the 1 star reviews are from people that are from Golds. Crunch bought all of Golds memberships when Golds closed. This is a common business practice. Should they have called, maybe but Golds could have as well.

Started charging me a re-occurring $40 fee for a gym membership for a gym I’ve never stepped foot in. Woman on the phone told me they received all of golds gyms prior members (and signed them up for a re-occurring payment without any sort of notification or consent). Shame on golds gym and crunch. Sounds like a potential lawsuit waiting to happen.

Best gym in Birmingham! Nowhere else can you get all this for so little! From strength training to cardio and classes this place can't be beat!

Great new facility in a convenient location. The only negatives are lack of a basketball court and steam room that both Gold's locations had. The training staff, especially Andrew are top-notch.To all those complaining about being charged after memberships being transferred....read your emails. Gold's sent an email to all members shortly after going out of business in Alabama about the transfer...Crunch followed up with another email detailing how to CANCEL if you didn't want to continue with them. Any subsequent charges are on you guys for not paying attention.
