I was referred to Aamco by a customer at Pep Boys. He spoke very highly of them and I knew I needed to have them check out my vehicle. Upon walking in, I was greeted by Mike and he was super attentive to my needs. He thoroughly explained what he needed to do and got to work on my diagnostic immediately. Once the problem was identified, he got numbers for me and called me back like he said he would. My transmission was replaced within a few days and I am back on the road again. My experience was very smooth and I would recommend their services to anyone. Thank you Mike and the Aamco staff.

Unethical Practices and Lack of Communication – Avoid AAMCO
I recently had a deeply disappointing experience with AAMCO and would not recommend their services to anyone. Here is a summary of my ordeal:
I received an initial quote of $2,597.95 for vehicle repairs and paid $1,300.00 on April 3, 2024. The vehicle was promised to be ready by April 8, 2024. However, after being informed of delays due to staffing issues, my husband and I visited the AAMCO shop, only to find out that my vehicle had been transferred to a Ford dealer without any prior notification.
The sales representative confirmed the transfer and assured us that AAMCO was handling the situation. We were not informed about any additional costs involved with this transfer.
On May 1, 2024, AAMCO called to inform me that my vehicle was ready for pickup, with a new total cost of $4,750.02. After deducting the $1,300 already paid, I was left with a balance of $3,450.00. When I questioned the unauthorized additional work, the sales representative admitted to making the decision without my consent and insisted that he had the right to proceed without notifying me. He further stated that the vehicle would not be released until the balance was paid in full.
This situation caused significant financial strain and highlighted the unethical practices of this AAMCO location.
I strongly advise against using AAMCO for any vehicle repairs. They do not communicate additional charges to clients, and the owner believes he has the right to conduct work without the customer's knowledge or approval. Save yourself the hassle and choose a more reputable service provider.

Mike is not a truthful person. My son took his truck in to have the transmission checked and do a fluid change because of unsmooth shifting. Mike informed him that he did change the fluid but there was no problem with his transmission and that he needed his catalytic converters replaced. They even looked at catalytic converter costs in the shop when he picked the truck up. A few days later my son was driving and smoke started coming out from underneath the truck. He took it back to Mike and was told that the leak was caused by a couple of loose bolts that were difficult to tighten. He also told him that he needed a transmission rebuild. Which was incredulous considering Mike had just told him that the transmission was fine and it was the catalytic converters causing the problem,
Mike refused to say how or why the “bolts” were loose or consider the possibility that they contributed to the transmission problem. He proceeded to tell us to go to court, he would win……and that we were just like his other “lower socioeconomic customers” that wanted something for free…….quite sure we knew exactly what he was implying by “lower socioeconomic customers”
My son then took the truck to a Ford dealership and they told him the transmission had almost 2 quarts too much fluid in it. The rep told us that having that much overfill of transmission fluid certainly didn’t help the transmission.
My son then contacted AAMCO corporate and although they listened, they claim they can’t do anything because Mike is a franchise owned shop. That is absurd, and AAMCO corporate went even further by implying that my son added the extra fluid in the transmission……he doesn’t know how to do that and not even sure it can be done without taking it to a shop to begin with.
Mike will undoubtedly deny this description ……but there is a recording. AAMCO corporate knows this but apparently we “lower socioeconomic customers” don’t mean much to this company and their franchise owners.

I am forever grateful for the kind and professional service of Mike and his team at AAMCO. They were able to quickly and accurately diagnose the issue with my car. What really stood out to me was given that the part was not readily available close by Mike was willing to get in his personal vehicle and drive to Gardendale to pick up the part, ensuring I could get back on the road safely same day, you don’t see customer service of that caliber these days. If you are in the Irondale or surrounding area please give this AAMCO try!

They told me they couldn't rebuild my transmission because they couldn't get parts for it because of the age of the vehicle. Said they could put a reman in for $3100. So I took the vehicle to Ron Hatcher's Transmission and he rebuilt it for $1500. Weird how Ron was able to get the parts but I'm thankful and it's running great.

Mike was great!! We were broken down on Sunday, left the car in the parking lot. By Monday morning Mike had assessed, fixed, and my husband was on his way back home Monday afternoon! I can’t say enough nice things about this shop!! If I could give 10 stars, I would!!

Although I didn't need any work done as of now, they were thorough in checking my car for issues and I appreciated them not trying to "create an issue" for money. Will be back in the future if needed.

The man that sits in the office and does all the inside work such as asking you what’s wrong and giving you the prices. He was such a nice man and they are all about trying to help fix your car.
