Dog posted to be at this shelter. I had called and then drove 40 miles to get there. Dog was at a different shelter. Aggravated.

Posted a dog that belonged to someone else.. drove so far for nothing. Do better and update the site so people aren’t wasting their time AND CLEAN UP. You instantly get a headache from the smell in there.

They looked me in the face and lied to me. I was trying to help some abandoned kittens, but I won't ever bother with them again.

My family has fostered several dogs from the downtown Jasper shelter / Bham Humane Society for RUFF Rescue. The staff and volunteers really know and care for the dogs and cats in their care. If you ever consider adding a new pet to your family, please stop by and see the many sweet dogs and cats that are there. I'm very sure you'll find the one with the right personality to enhance and bring joy to your family and home. I've added pictures of many of the ones that have spent time in our home before moving on to their forever families.

They started helping me when I reached out to them they helped me get 2 cats fixed and helped with cat food a couple of times then things went down hill when they seen the car I was driving is mine I guess you can't have a nice car and get help feeding your pets they started lying to me and telling me they weren't getting donations that people were not giving donations they told me that I need to take my money and buy my own cat food even telling me where to buy the food at they were being very rude to me and wouldn't help me get the other 2 cats fixed so if you drive a nice car don't drive it to get help from them because apparently that's what they go by it's hard watching my cats be hungry so I feed them what meats I have in my freezer my animals won't go hungry

It could be cleaner. No way in having alone time with the cats. I couldn’t really hold one due to poo being all over their feet. Staff were nice, but I felt uncomfortable for being in there. Also, they fix the kittens WAY too early. They don’t hit adult hood until 6 months. The kittens are no older than less than 3 months.

If they decide that a cat is unadoptable, it is kept for a week, fixed, and then thrown out on the streets in the middle of downtown with no provisions but one communal bowl of food placed by the main entrance directly in front of the road. They are not even provided any water because there is a creek nearby, which is 600 ft from the shelter through a wooden area. They are terrified, in a completely open, unfamiliar, confusing, and unsafe area and somehow expected to find this. They would be better off being put down than subjected to this.
Strays are being brought in by the cargo load and then practically given away for nearly nothing. And the Walker County shelter had to be taken over by Birmingham last year due to severe neglect and starvation.
The shelters here seem to be functioning more like animal dumping sites that might be doing more harm than good.

I got my last fur baby from their drove from 2 1/2 hrs one way. We love Penny she's a dachshund a big one the sweetest and so loveable. I've always had shelter dogs. We got her at 3 months she's now 13 months. I've been looking for a friend for her but no luck yet.

The people are great. And, all the fur babies are loved while waiting for loving families to take them home. The shelter is very clean. Thank you for everything all of you do for the babies waiting for their forever( good )homes.
