Step back in time at the Bragg-Mitchell Mansion, one of Mobile, Alabama’s most iconic historic homes. Built in 1855 by Judge John Bragg, this 13,000-square-foot Greek Revival mansion once hosted lavish social gatherings during Mobile’s festive season from Thanksgiving through Mardi Gras. After passing through several families, the home was lovingly preserved by the Mitchell family and later donated to The Explore Center in the late 1970s. Following a $3 million restoration, the Mansion opened to the public in 1987 and now welcomes visitors for guided historic tours, elegant weddings, and private events. The BMM is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
I have driven by several times, usually on the weekend, when they are not open. I finally had a weekday off and decided to visit. Tours are given hourly on the top of the hour. No photos are allowed in the house. Friendly and well informed tour guide. Reasonable tour price.
