On 10/22/2024 I went into the family dollar at broad street to purchase a few things to prepare a meal. After returning to the register with my items, I felt a strong need to use the restroom as I had been waiting on my commute to the Family Dollar store. I then placed my items at the checkout and advised the clerk that I had to run to the restroom, I will be right back to pay for my items. Then proceeded to the rear of the store where the restrooms are located. Once I reached within 3 feet of the males restroom, I was startled by a young lady who yelled at me what are you doing back here? I replied, going to the restroom ma’am. She then replied, You are a WHOLE MAN and you can use it outside. You cannot use this restroom!!!… I then replied, this is a public place, this is a public restroom, and I am a paying customer. She replied, you are not a customer because at this point I’m refusing you service. you seen the sign on the door!!! I replied what sign and proceeded to look on the door for the sign. After seeing there was no sign she advise me that someone removed it. I replied well I’ll just pay for my things and leave. As I approached the register she followed me with a phone and called the police on me saying i refused to leave the store. I then proceeded back to my vehicle where I had a accident messing my clothes and my car. After arriving home to get myself cleaned up, I called the store and requested for the number for Corporate. The then gave me the number 1-800-932-5378. I called this number and it was some life line program for medical alert. I then called the store back and advised she should give the correct information because it’s mandatory that I speak with corporate. She then hung up on me. I was up early the next morning to drive back to mobile to file my complaint via another store location. I’ve never been treated like this in any store I’ve ever been in. I don’t recommend this store for any Men especially men of color because I could’ve been harmed by the police based on a lie that was told. This situation could have went worse for me but for no reason at all. People don’t ask questions when the law is called on a black male.

I would like to express my concerns regarding my recent experiences at this store. Initially, my visits were satisfactory; however, they have deteriorated significantly. The behavior of the employees has been unprofessional, exhibiting rudeness and inconsistency in service times.
Each visit requires a considerable waiting period, often exceeding ten minutes for a single item. Additionally, the card reader frequently malfunctions, and there seems to be a preference against accepting cash due to a stated lack of change.
On a recent occasion, I attempted to purchase two items, only to find the store closed two hours earlier than its scheduled closing time. The following morning, I returned for the same items, only to encounter an employee who was engaged in a disagreement with customers regarding the store's opening time. Although the store is scheduled to open at 8:00 AM, she asserted that she would not open at that time. Ultimately, after waiting, I was informed that the store would remain closed for the entire day.
If it were possible to assign a rating of zero stars, I would do so.

Imagine opening a store and a community and you won't let the people use the restroom . This generalization mentality is truly getting old just stop wasting your resources and don't make a bathroom at all.. matter of fact those resources could go towards some raises but I doubt it.. stop coming to these communities and making it okay for them not being able to use a public restroom.

Place went down-hill after the let go of the last staff only ugly people with ugly attitudes now bad business and under stocked with products they have yet to place on shelves needs old staff back

I'm currently in a wheelchair with two broken legs, a broken neck n broken back. I've shopped this store a hundred plus times n only just see how badly neglected the physically handicapped are overlooked. You can't fit almost anywhere!

At the time of my visit, I didn't have any major issues. The store itself was clean and ordered, but it felt claustrophobic due to narrow aisles.
