Colonial Fort Condé is a popular historic attraction in Mobile that offers visitors a glimpse into the city’s colonial past. Built in 1723 by French explorers, the original fort went through various names and was rediscovered during construction in 1966. A replica of the fort was opened in 1976, about one-third of the original size, at four-fifths scale, as part of the nation’s bicentennial celebration. The site is located in downtown Mobile and features reconstructed architecture, informative displays, and interpretive panels that showcase Mobile’s early history, military life, and French and Native American influences. Visitors enjoy walking along the ramparts, exploring inside the fort, and learning about life during the colonial era. The site also hosts different events throughout the year, including activities with characters dressed in period clothing who tell stories. It is a family-friendly place where kids can explore, watch a gun being fired, and even seal an envelope with wax. Admission is included with the visit to the nearby History Museum of Mobile. A notable feature is a time capsule set to be opened on July 4, 2026, which adds to the fun and excitement of exploring this historic landmark.

The exhibits are well done and balanced. The tickets are sold as part of a package with the Museum of Mobile which is also done well. The staff is kind and engages with visitors well.

Love visiting Fort Conde. It's fun walking along the rampart and seeing the history showcasing what life was like living in the fort. They also have different events throughout the year showing what life was like during the colonial era!
