Drove 3 and a 1/2 hours through heavy traffic through Birmingham.Made it to the park g Website said they would be open and they were closed.Big disappointment You would think with all the technology we have today they would have thought enough to notify people that they would be closed on Saturday easter weekend, saw several people parked outside the gate looking puzzled. probably never come back!!!

This review is specifically for the dismalites night tour. The rest of the area from what we experienced was nice and the employees in the main building were very sweet. As for the night tour, seing the dismalites was very fun. However, I think the canyon staff really needs to reevaluate what types of guests should be eligible for the night tour. Everyone should have a chance to see them, but older and less-mobile guests should be on their own tours, and the same goes for families with unruly small children. I'm not sure if it would require more tours with smaller groups or what, but the other guests in our group absolutely hindered our ability to enjoy the tour to the fullest extent. Putting 15 people of completely different ability shouldn't be on the same tour, for the sake of everyone's experience of something so one-of-a-kind. 90% of the tour being stuck behind people moving at a glacial pace, or constantly dealing with children talking and touching the walls, or the tour guide constantly having to remind people not to use their blinding flashlights made it miserable. They really need to lay down the ground rules and expectations during the booking process. We still hope to be back to experience other parts of the area though, but ultimately a little disappointing.

Very cool place to wander. Especially to see the glow worms on the tour at night.

Stopped on our roadtrip to go on a hike with our dogs. We all loved it, we arrived about 3 so they made sure to let us o ow we had to be back by 4:45 to make sure it didn’t get too dark. The hike was easy with a few spots that went through narrow passages. Our dogs loved it and they views were amazing. Well worth the stop. We want to come back when the glow worms are out!Dog-friendliness: Dogs must be leashed, and aren’t allowed to be in the diner but they can hike the trail.

An incredible hike! The entire family loved the senic views and the length was great! There were some difficult areas of creek crossing, a few tight squeezes and a ending stretch of some stairs, but all in all a great hike and will definitely return! The cafe was awesome and the staff were very welcoming and kind. Would definitely recommend the pecan pie and hot fudge sundays, along with the root beer float!Restrooms: The only restrooms are in the parking lot so be sure to go while there!

Beautiful ride getting there. You do have to pay to hike the area but it's well worth it. Also not wheelchair accessible. And all around great area to take the family on a good day trip.Restrooms: Clean

A beautiful canyon that also has a cafe. It's such a nice hike with towering rocks and then to be able to get lunch after makes it perfect. They offer tours for the famous glow worms, but if you can't get a tour, you can still hike during the day. Medium hike with some rock laden trails that can be a little slippery. Not mobility aid or handicap friendly.Restrooms: Camp restrooms with showers and stalls.Dog-friendliness: They allow dogs on the trail and for camping.Picnic area: Picnic areas and a diner inside.

Cabin rental is worth the price. Take a night tour with Bill. He's very informative and a great tour guide. We stayed on week nights and it was less crowded than the weekend.Dog-friendliness: Our shitzu was catered to and welcomed.

Beautiful canyon! We thoroughly enjoyed the hike. I didn't understand before that it was a designated path that you stay on, but it makes sense now that I know. They are working hard on preservation and protecting the dismalites. The night tour and the dismalites weren't what I expected but my family enjoyed it. I wish they would educate people a little better before entering the canyon (about the oils on your skin killing the dismalites when you touch the rocks!) and also before the night tour begins (we had people in our group with insanely bright white lanterns that ruined it for the rest of us that had our red lights). Bill (night tour guide) was clearly passionate about his job and about nature, but it was lost on most in our group who weren't that interested in listening to anything. I would have liked to have had a little longer to just be in the dark and watch the fireflies and dismalites and listen to the sounds of nature but it wasn't possible because our group started late (despite being told to be there at 6:30 for our 7pm tour, we just sat and waited for a long time) and there were too many people. Despite the things I wish were different, it was a wonderful experience.

Beautiful hike.... My 3 kids all had a good time. Trail isnt too long or strenuous. Beginning of sept was still a little humid so bring water. Restrooms in parking lot but hard to find. The gift shop was cute and run by friendly staff. Dogs can be brought on hike as long as they are leashed. Would recommend and plan on going again.
