Capitol Park is a historic area and a neat little park in Tuscaloosa, featuring the grounds of the former Alabama Capitol. Visitors can enjoy walking among the ruins of the old building and columns shaded by large oaks, making it a great spot for photos. The park is clean, peaceful, and pet-friendly, offering a quiet place to learn about Alabama's history or relax with loved ones. There are picnic areas with tables and a pavilion, though some tables are close to a tether-ball pole, which can lead to accidental hits. The park also has a playground with swings and a picnic table nearby, making it suitable for families. One notable feature is the tether-ball, although its current placement among many tree roots makes it less enjoyable. The park is a significant site related to the Civil Rights movement, adding to its historical importance. Overall, Capitol Park is a charming and educational stop for visitors interested in history and outdoor activities.
Definitely worth checking out. Great place to killna little time and learn something while you're there.

What a fun little history stop. I'm glad the ruins are still there to explore.

On February 17, 2026 my son and new Daughter in Law exchanged their wedding vows in Capital Park. It was quiet enough to have a small ceremony. The park was litter free and maintained. I am from Pittsburgh, PA
