Headed home from Mobile, AL. We stop to see the family land. I wanted my boys to see where there family come from. After our family history lesson. We were looking for a place to eat before getting back on the road. Per Yelp this place was 5 stars. We were 0.8 miles away. Let's give it a try. It was a line of folks. Waiting to order. So we knew the food must be good! We had the fried chicken and fish combo. Our sides were Mac and cheese, greens, and yams. While waiting for our food. We chatted with the owner for alittle while. I mentioned my family and he knew of them. Down to the food. MAN OH MAN the fried fish was the BEST I've had. The breading and seasoning was on point. And the fish was sooooo fresh! It was fried to perfection. The chicken was equally as good! The sides were good as well. The banana pudding & sweet potato pie was great! For the four of us we spent $37. Nice price and great food! you are alright in my book! If you are ever in York please stop by Larkins! You won't be disappointed!

Stopped in on the way from Texas to MD. The food was amazing, everyone was very nice, and the banana pudding was the best I can ever remember. We were lucky it wasn't so busy when we pulled in, because there was a steady flow of hungry people and the line was constant.

We decided to take a detour off of Hwy I-20 and so glad we did. The food was awesome! Small town comfort food! Awesome fried chicken and the peach cobbler was amazing.

Another Yelp gem! We were driving through on our way home and decided to go off the beaten path instead of grabbing fast food. Great decision! It was cafeteria style with a choice of a few different meats, sides and desserts. We went with fried chicken, Mac and cheese and banana pudding. All delicious. You can tell this is an obvious local favorite, too, as there was a steady stream of folks in and out the whole time we were there. Seriously, some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. You won't regret stopping.

I am so happy to run across Larkin's Restaurant in York, AL for delicious food, I have missed over the years while living in Colorado. Born and raised in Huntsville, AL I've never tasted any better sweet potatoes, cabbage and banana pudding. The fried chicken and chicken salad were delicious as well. In these days and times, we can all use so comfort. As such, I'm grateful for the Larkin Restaurant food that's clearly made with love.

If you're looking for a local spot, don't judge a book by its cover, we came on a Friday (they have a different menu each day of the week) we tried a little of everything, the fried chicken, fried fish, Lima beans, collard greens, Mac & cheese, loaded potatoes last but not least the peach cobbler! All AMAZING and blew our expectations! Soul food that fed the soul! Also they had adorable cats outside the front, the staff and even all of the customers were very friendly and all over a great spot!

We always like to support locally owned places and look for good places "off the beaten path". We stopped in York while traveling. Owner was really nice and talked to us while we were eating outside because of virus restrictions. He asked where we were from and where we were headed. He said he's been there 8 years. Had a deli/grocery store previously that closed when Walmart came to town. They had a hot bar of fried chicken, baked chicken, spaghetti, with Mac and cheese, collard greens, black eyed peas, cornbread. Price was cheap and a good bit of food. Fried chicken and Mac and cheese were fresh and flavorful. Enjoyed the meal and the customer service. The baked chicken looked and smelled awesome and wish I had tried that as well. Check this place out if you're traveling on interstate 59/20 and are looking for good home cooked food.

I stumbled upon a gem! On a road trip, headed up I-59 N and we had just missed all the food in Meridian and we just kept refreshing yelp and a 5 Star rating popped up, it was Larkin's! We were welcomed by the owners son, the entire staff was friendly and very helpful. I asked the young man what I should get as this is my first time there, he replied "the fried chicken is pretty good and Mac & cheese and the peach cobbler"...I soon learned he was being modest. I ordered a fried Chicken Breast, fried chicken thigh, Mac & cheese and a roll. Sweet tea to drink. Peach cobbler for dessert...Wow! Just wow! Every bite. When I opened the box I honesty didn't think I would finish my food...my box was empty at the end. The flavor in the breading for the chicken...amazing. I'm very picky about my Mac & cheese...amazing. The sweet tea was ON POINT! And the peach cobbler...just go ahead and do it, tastes just like grandmas. You can never judge a book by its cover (but all us foodies know it's the hole in the walls with the best food, no disrespect). I had the pleasure of meeting the owner when we were wrapping up in the parking lot and I was so happy because it always adds a personal touch when you get to know your customers and I could thank him in person for a wonderful meal. Not to mention, it wasn't even $10.If you ever find yourself in York Alabama or anywhere close, it's worth going out of your way. Wish nothing but success to Larkin's and hope to cross paths again ;) I hope I keep finding treasures like this on my journeys! #TREAM #EBGC

Incredible home style southern kitchen. My first time in Alabama, the staff was super nice. Menu is À la cart style and reasonable priced.

Interesting little place. We were so out of our element, the owner had to explain the ordering process. One checks the daily menu(on the wall), decides what one wants and how much (1 or 2 sides), relays that information to the server, selects drink, pays, then eats. It seems like a cafeteria, which, the owner admits, is where he hot the idea. He purchased the equipment from the old high school cafeteria (they built a new one) and set up this restaurant 7 years ago. There are many tables inside, but the place really is like a community cafeteria. The constant flow of customers was mind boggling. Now, to the food! It's marvelous, down home comfort food. We had fried chicken (and went back for seconds), fried Catfish (seconds, too), Lima beans, mashed potatoes, and collard greens. They call the potatoes "loaded" because they are made creamy with milk, butter, and cheese (or so it seemed to me). The Lima beans (or butter beans, as the locals kept ordering) were also very soft and creamy. Delicious food at great prices.

Wonderful little place off the beaten path. Quick cafeteria style, great selection and excellent taste. Had the meatloaf platter and it did not disappoint. Instead of wasting time in the latest & greatest modern aesthetics, they pour their love & energy into good ole fashioned soul food that's worth the stop.

Remember the scene in Ratatouille when Anton Ego, the food critic, ate the ratatouille and was transported back to his childhood? This place did that for me. Perfectly battered fish and chicken fried golden and crispy; super tasty mac-n-cheese smothered in cheddar; and the lemon cake was done oh so right...melted sugar poured over the top and soaked into the cake about an inch deep. (I never said it was a healthy place to eat)And everybody was "old south" friendly. Even our fellow customers were engaging as we waited in line to be served. If you want a place that is quick in, quick out, with excellent food and great people, and not too far off the interstate (2.5 miles, with one light) look no further than Larkin's.
