Helping Hands is a NON-Profit drop-off location where donors believe they can safely give to those who are less fortunate. Unfortunately, most donors are unaware that so-called volunteers have started to illegally charge thrift store prices for everything donated to the poor and are using the money for themselves or taking it to the senior center (their actual workplace) in order to add it to the budget that they control (a.k.a their pocketbooks).I have seen these volunteers’ lifestyles upscale dramatically from normal (except for stealing helping hands donations for themselves) to above normal (hair and nails done at the salon, new car, daily espresso coffees, etc.) Meanwhile, when those of us who need a helping hand walk in and ask if we can trade some outgrown clothes for our children, as we have no money, we are told that “she’s not going to go for that”. (She being the ‘head’ volunteer/posse leader.)Helping hands is not registered as a business and so absorbs no overhead, only profit off of what was given to the poor homesteaders of Anchor Point. Even before they took over helping hands a year or so ago, they audibly badmouthed anyone who didn’t “donate” money and literally glared at those who did not drop off a significant amount of cash when they came for something that they needed. Voluntary trades were sneered at, snatched out of people’s hands, and brought back to their own families and homes. Please do not “shop” at helping hands on principle.Breaking deal though: Spend $50 and you get $5 free!!

Nonprofit 2nd hand store. Well stocked with a good selection of donated items and clothing at very affordable prices, and friendly volunteer staff. Always something interesting to browse through.
