I'll preface by saying I've been an FNBA customer for over 35 years. I bank with more than 30 different banks and financial institutions presently, so I have a good idea what services are available through various institutions. I love supporting local banks whenever possible, however it seems that just about every interaction I have with FNBA is either to resolve a problem that their extremely outdated systems, online banking, app etc. have caused, or to re-establish my login credentials (which usually can only be done IN BRANCH during regular weekday hours). Just because I don't keep a large balance in my accounts there, I feel frequently that I am treated with dismissiveness and that my suggestions for improvement or pointing out how their systems are broken are completely disregarded. It is precisely for this reason that I DON'T keep my assets there. When I offered to put a significant amount of funds on deposit into a CD recently, all of a sudden I got responsiveness, but it was very short-lived. I miss being able to work with fantastic branch managers like Kim Frensley at the downtown branch (which has now been torn down). In terms of consumer products, FNBA does not offer anything competitive that I've seen, even with other Alaskan banks. I can't speak to home lending there from personal experience, but for savings accounts, checking, credit cards and CDs, they are not competitive in their products/rates. I do believe their escrow services for owner-finance are what probably keeps their lending department in business. That, and their commercial lending. I hear they no longer loan on mobile homes--which is unfortunate because that is a very under-served population in Alaska--and should be taken into consideration by the OCC when reviewing their activites in light of the Community Reinvestment Act.However, if you are someone who frequently uses app-based services for your consumer or small business banking needs (like me), you will literally pull your hair out thanks to thier interface, products, and offerings. You can't even edit your profile properly, change security questions, or access statements through their app (and they'll charge you if you ask for mailed statements when you don't want to deal with the headache that is their online banking). What's the point? Their hours are quite limited, and they don't offer promotions to attract new consumer business. Frankly, if they didn't own their own brick & mortar real estate and have historical equity (since they're 100 years old), they would probably have been sold out or closed by now. I love the nastalgia of their branches, and even some of their philanthropy; I even have multiple safe deposit boxes with them. Those alone though aren't enough to get me to move my assets to FNBA for regular use.If you want your grandparents' banking experience, this is absolutely the place to go.(Review is 2 stars because I just cant bear to give an Alaskan bank 1 star.)

I was going to leave a review on Google, but apparently that's not a thing for banks. This bank is awful. Just don't do it. I can't decide if this bank or Bank of America is the worst. They're each the worst-in-class. Had an owner-financed escrow account with these yayhoos (no longer), and attempted a HELOC. Annoying, but probably for the better, we were denied due to low credit score (733 and 830?). When calling to inquire about this (because obviously we have some questions) they simply let it go to voicemail and never returned calls. On par with the historically poor communication I've had in the past. They're probably 20 years behind on technology and you do not want to online bank with these guys (or bank at all).

Poor customer service. No staff available. Refused to accept legal documents. There are many better choices. Credit unions are far better.

I paid off a loan from FNBA in 2017, when the time came for me to receive my 2017 PFD I found out that the bank had garnished it as payment for "past due fees" on the loan i'd paid off. After weeks of fighting with the staff they finally sent me reimbursement check to shut me up, when I got the check it was for $2.75! When I called them outraged all they would say is the rest of my payment went to fees and interest. I've asked several times for a breakdown of documented charges and every time I get an email of someone simply typing out random charges for fee's, interest, levy charges, ect. The last and most recent time I've asked for some type of receipt or detailed breakdown (just last week, that's right 2 years later!) of my reimbursement, Mimi Cook from the Eagle River branch simply said, "That's above my paygrade, let me call you back." A few hours later I get a very snarky email from her ending with, "However, since this has been explained and debt closed, there would be a fee for the research." Gee thanks Mimi, charge me money to look for the money you guys lost. Save yourself the headache, bank elsewhere.
