My family and another family rented a suv from you and we had really great experience. We are really happy with the car your staff. Thanks Randy for all arrangements you did for us. If we or any of our friends visiting anchorage, we will strongly suggest them to rent a car from High Country car & Truck Rental.

These guys ruined our trip. We had booked a full size car to drive on the McCarthy road (gravel road). When we reached the airport, they didn't have any car for us. After waiting 45mins, they said they found a Corolla for us. This car was in worst possible condition. 60k+ miles, cracked windshield, filthy seats, worn out tires. We had no choice but to take this car because they left us no choice. In the end, we didnt drive the McCarthy road fearing that this car would break down. Beware of this car company.

I rent from them regularly as their prices are always cheaper than the airport and sometimes outrageously cheaper. The cars are experienced but always functional and with cracks and dents already present so I worry less about where I park. Randy is a fine human being and I always enjoy talking with him and watching him take care of other folks with compassion and kindness. The only negative is that sometimes it takes awhile to get picked up at the airport to go to the rental place but if you are not in a hurry this is the only place to rent your vehicle.

I was planning a trip to see my fiancé for his birthday and had difficulty finding a car rental that would rent out cars to people under 21. I finally stumbled upon this business and was delighted to find out that they would rent to me. First off, he quoted me $278. And eventually when I told him my deductible, which was $500, he totaled me out at $831. He said I would get my $500 back after I returned the car back in the same condition I left with. However, exactly two weeks before I leave for my trip, he sends me an email saying that he is no longer going to be continuing his business and basically, I'm out of luck for a car. I called him and was questioning him about what I'm supposed to do now after he pulled this stunt on me. He said call him back the next day because he was trying to figure out something for me. I was worried because just a few days after I sent him a scan of my drivers license with all my information on it, my debit card, and insurance he pulls this on me. And after that conversation, he never replied to any of my emails and phone calls. He basically screwed me over and didn't care. Very rude and selfish.

1. They offer rentals to people under 21 with a fair rate. 2. Their car is new and clear, we had a 2012 Nissan Altima 2.5S as a full size sedan. 3. They can drop off the car one night ahead at the hotel so we can pick up right at the hotel's front desk. 3. They offer free pick up/ drop off to airport or train station. 4. Randy at the front desk is cool.

The car we rented hadn't been returned so they upgraded us to a larger SUV. The SUV had 170,000 miles on it and the transmission was slipping so bad that it was tough drive and reverse. Not only that but 1/2 the time the car wouldn't start in park and I had to put it in neutral just to get it started. The windshield was cracked and the exterior was extremely scratched, including bad words carved into the hood. This place is a joke and I will never rent from them again.

We rented a car from High Country after planning our trip out to St. Elias/McCarthy and realizing that most big box car renters don't allow their cars to be driven on gravel roads. After realizing this, I gave HC a call to inquire about renting and was surprised and thankful to discover that their rates were much better than the big name companies. The person on the phone was patient and more than willing to answer my questions--I booked immediately. When we got the car it was very clean and in great shape. We had a great vacation and ended up extending our trip and rental another day which was no hassle at all with these guys. Upon return they gave us a shuttle ride to the airport. I cannot recommend this place enough. It's nice to deal with and support a local business and it's even better when they leave an impression like they did with us.

I was nervous about renting from here because of all the bad reviews I read about them, but at the end of the day they were the cheapest I could find. I payed $300 for a week(pretty good price in Anchorage) and I got a great car and great service. I was very relieved. I'm glad I went with High Country and will go with them again the next time I'm in Alaska.

Where do I start? This is the perfect example of how shoddy business is run in Anchorage. The owner is rude. His staff is perpetually stoned laughing and giggling at the customers when they walk in. What their job function is I'm not sure. If you leave a deposit with your card.. expect to fight to get it back. My card company had to threaten him to get him to release $500 after six weeks! If you leave a cash deposit, he will tell you you'll get it back in cash but you won't. He cut my husband a check for $600 of our cash deposit saying he had no cash, while another employee stood behind me and counted out two thousand dollars cash from the register! I don't even want to know how much money he has stolen from his customers though out the years. If we would have forgotten about that $500 card holding, I believe he would have pocketed the money and not have said anything. If he hasn't given your deposit back, tell your card company. They'll get it back for you. This guy's a scammer!

WE THOUGHT WE WERE GETTING A GOOD DEAL. THE CAR WAS DIRTY,SEATS, AND THEN WHEN WE CALLED ABOUT THE FINAL PRICE THEY HAD NOT TOLD US ABOUT ALL THE OTHER CHARGES. OUR BILL WENT FROM 171.00 TO OVER .300.00 NOT PLEASED AT ALL AND WHEN TOLD ABOUT IT THE GUY WAS RUDE.

I was ready to rip these guys a new one on here. First they gave me a car that had a wobbly wheel and vibrated on the freeway. Then they gave me a car that reeked of cigarette smoke. I drove 700 miles round-trip to Fairbanks. I was so frustrated driving that smelly car for so long. Then, when I got to the rental office to check out, I politely asked for a discount because of the smoke smell and the gentlemen promptly gave me a $27 discount off the bill and apologized. Then a nice guy gave us a ride to the hostel. It was hard to stay so mad at them. They are cheap, don't have much variety and in a weird location. But they are cheap!
