Felt like I wasn’t welcomed there, everyone was being treated super nice and I just wasn’t receiving the same, and I happened to be the only person there that wasn’t white. I would understand if I was being a type of way but I was being nice and understanding. But unfortunately the whole interaction was not enjoyable and I won’t be going back.

I received the worst subtle racism I've received in years at the Huffman location today. I walked in, it was very busy, lots of people but also lots of people to help. I waited to take my turn to look at the xtratufs seeing a pair I wanted. I watched and waited as others before me were helped, then when it was my turn to be helped, not a sales person in sight. A gentleman walked into the store after I'd waited 10 mins and immediately was acknowledged and received assistance, fine, ok, "he's looking at the men's" I told myself. I said, "excuse me" very politely to an associate, she ignored me, and started speaking with some other lady customers about what they were going to have for lunch, ok, maybe she knows them. A lady came in after that, asked how long I'd been waiting, which at the time was around 20 mins. The pair I had wanted was tried on by someone else so I went to the counter and got them from the male associate at the counter, he offered no further assistance, didn't ask if I wanted another pair, nothing. The gal who was behind me waiting for xtratufs got immediate assistance as soon as I walked away. She asked me as I was looking around the store if I had actually received any help, because SHE had just been helped. She gave me a knowing look, and said, "I know this store is busy, but it's not THAT busy".I walked around for a small amount of time longer trying to locate socks, then went to the checkout, and this is where the REAL racism kicked in. I handed everything to the lady at the cash register, she asked me if I had shopped with them before, I hadn't, so she got my phone number. She asked the female associate who ignored me if she had helped me, she replied no, with a side look to me. She asked if the gentleman associate had helped me, to which I replied no, as he had not. SHE asked if I wanted my box, I did not, so she took the boots out. She checked the inside of the boots once there, and then once again after I had paid, coming around the register to do so. I stated I wanted to wear the boots out, and while seated with one boot on my foot, she checks the unworn boot AGAIN, saying she thought SHE left something in it, after having checked them TWICE already.I wore regular alaska attire today, clean jeans, a hoodie, and pompom hat. I was not the only person wearing boots out of the store, but I was the ONLY patron being ignored, then assessed again and again.

Another fantastic, locally-owned shop. Vibrant, helpful staff and an array of clothing and apparel outside of footwear! Some very fashion-forward, thoughtfully curated brands. Support your local businesses!

Located in a strip mall near the Huffman post office, you'll find The Alaska Walking Store. Previous to this visit, I have only visited their 5th Ave Mall location. Their space is clean with wood floors. There seemed to be just as much clothing items as there were footwear. Since a few employees were present, we were assisted immediately. Our worker seemed new, but efficient and eager to please. We came to find a comfortable walking shoe for my dad and luckily found something in the Hoka brand that we hoped would work. The Alaska Walking Store does not give cash refunds FYI. Most shoes are at least $99, so take your time. Luckily, you ARE able to make exchanges at any of their locations (2, currently).

Wish I could give less than one star. Bought a pair of shoes. Put them on one time at home and determined they were too small. Went to return them and the sales person treated me like I was a homeless person that was trying to camp out in their show room. One of the worst experiences I've ever had. I plan to donate the 110.00 pair of never worn shoes. I will never buy another thing from the store again. If I have my way no one that I know will buy a pair of shoes from them either.

Very helpful staff helped us find hike appropriate shoes for my daughter after we had tried a number of other stores. The mall location called and had them hold a couple of sizes for us which was also very kind.
