Absolutely a must see! Their gift shop has all the usual tourist stuff but at better prices and better selection. And it’s very interesting to watch the whole process of how they make the ulu knives. You can even have them laser engraved or customize the handles and in a matter of minutes, your customized ulu is packed and ready to go! I used the one I bought just tonight to cut up our homemade pizza!

We had already dropped our bags at the airport and was unable to purchase Ulus while we were in Anchorage (we took a tour bus from Seward, where our cruise ended, and only had an afternoon to kill). After returning home, I was really bummed, especially after someone at the airport told me they were the best quality. I contacted The Ulu Factory, they mailed a catalog, and I was able to order exactly what I wanted! Kudos to Melinda for great customer service!

Great place. We have gotten these knives before and our friends love them. Couple of them placed orders for us to get them. They are so nice here and yes they do ship them home for you by usps large flat rate box. Easily fits two large sets or knives and boards along with other small items. Pay the $18 to have them shipped home as you wont have to deal with any possible issues of getting them onthe ship or going thru customs in Canada.

When entering, we were warmly greeted and offered information on the knives. There is a representative display of various Ulu knives they make and offer for sale. There is also a small display of historic knives made by indigenous people just behind the podium. If you arrive mid day weekdays you are likely to see parts of the production process both left and right of the gift store. There are windows where you can view the workers, but sadly no printed or oral indication of what is happening. Note: no restrooms available inside, but a couple of portable potties just outside - there is also a public restroom next to the bridge very close by (not well maintained).

really disappointed with this place. The "factory" consists of a couple of windows where you can look in and supposedly see craftsmen. But the place is really just an expensive giftshop. When we asked an employee about the free downtown shuttle, he said "the website may have lied about that." That kind of sums up the place

Not of the the place so much as the product. I was gifted a Ulu knife following a cruise. I refused to get an Alaskan Ulu made by a company in China. This knife is exceptional. It is compact and the stand is perfect. I have used this daily: pizza, sausage, bread. It cuts perfectly and wipes clean. Highly recommended, plus a lifetime guarantee.

We visited the Ulu Factory and we were impressed. Very interesting to watch how they make the ulu’s and how they have been used in history. A worker shared that they would ship our gifts home. This allowed us to shop and not worry about what could fit in our suitcase. We were there on Friday, arrived home (FL on Sunday), and our gifts arrived on Tuesday (after a Monday holiday). All items were packed with care (bubble wrap) and arrived in perfect condition. Quite a selection available. Definitely recommend this stop!

Good inuit traditional ulu knife and cutting board store

While they promised a demonstration of how to use the ulu knife that they showcase being made in their factory, it was little more than a glorified gift shop with videos on a screen that shows how to use the ulu knife as a chopper. There was very little in terms of a factory tour as you watched the mass production of the knives they sell for $15.In addition, if there is a tour bus, the 30 minute free parking is not available and parking is $6 minimum for one or two hours.Definitely not worth the parking fee.

We stopped by as a tour bus group and even though 49 people rushed into the shoppe the staff were incredible. The service was friendly and informative. You can get a custom handle and laser engraving on blades. Since I was flying out they offered to ship the items I bought no problem. As i write this I am back in Georgia and was just on the phone to order more and the service was still impressive.Must stop here !!1

Thorn:
NO PUBLIC RESTROOMS. I’m so annoyed by this. This is an urban store, in a prime location downtown anchorage. Plenty of tourists and locals visit this area and they have 2 port-a-potties in the parking lot. Absolutely disgusting to use the bathroom with no way of washing and then return to the store and touch all the trinkets.
NICKLE and DIMING for the carry out bags. Look, I’ve purchased a significant amount of souvenirs and you want to charge me .10 for a paper bag?
Employees that follow you around. Mama with 2 kids on an afternoon outing gets followed around by two employees. I’m not sure if this was maybe because they were teenage employees and maybe just eager to help, but the feeling was definitely uncomfortable. Here I am shopping with the basket, browsing at all the souvenirs and I have a shadow.
Bud:
Free parking - limit 30 minutes. Mama needs more time to browse and I don’t want to be rushed by a 30 minute time limit. If you’re worried about fishermen park here, simply ticket those who aren’t customers.
Rose:
We were greeted immediately upon entry with an ulu demonstration; the employee explained the different handles and styles used by Native Alaskans. Great selection of Alaskan souvenirs. From stickers, teas, dog treats, ornaments and ulu’s, you will find something amazing to take home! It’s also pretty cool that you can see the workshop and creation of all parts of the factory. Neat kid corner…lots of books, stuffed animals and kids items/area to lounge while mama browses.

Very friendly and informative little store and shop where they manufacture on site. Lots of nice souvenirs to purchase including food items, toilettries like hand made soaps, post cards, and more. Close to a restaurant and a cute little bridge by the water. Worth stopping by even just for interest and education on local history of the ulu. There appears to be a walking trail close by but it's not maintained in the winter time so I didn't venture there.

Great place to pick-up a Ulu knife and bowl set. About seven years ago they gave classes how to sharpen a Ulu knife. Not anymore.
