About Sullivan Roadhouse
Sullivan Roadhouse is a historic site and museum located in Delta Junction, Alaska. Built in 1905, it is the oldest remaining structure in Interior Alaska and was originally part of the Valdez-Fairbanks Trail. The roadhouse has been relocated and restored to preserve its history, which dates back to a time before roads, when travelers used dogs and horses to make long journeys that could take weeks. Visitors can explore the old house, which features four rooms filled with artifacts, tools, old clothes, and animal heads that provide a glimpse into life from around 1900. The museum offers informative guided tours by friendly and knowledgeable staff, who share stories about the history of the area and the roadhouse’s role as a stop for travelers. The site is free to visit, with tips appreciated to support its operation. During the year, the roadhouse is decorated with Christmas lights by volunteers, adding to its charm. It’s a recommended place for anyone interested in history, culture, and old Alaska.
