I just called the local office to get some simple information for booking a one-way car from Whittier to Seward. The guy just basically told me to go look at the website and whatever was for this year would be for next. Seem to just wanna get me off the phone. Pretty unhelpful. Not the customer service I expect from Avis or the people in Alaska. Disappointing.

Extremely disappointing experience with Avis at Whittier -
First, they gave us a car with low air pressure in one of the tires. I noticed it immediately and informed the staff, but instead of addressing the issue properly, he just told us to “fill it up and drive” — despite not having a compressor at the location. He insisted the tire was fine, which clearly it wasn’t. A couple of days later, the issue persisted and I had to call back. Instead of acknowledging the inconvenience, I was just told to go ahead and get it repaired — with no apology or support.
To make things worse, I had booked a full-size car, but was given a small SUV with no option to switch. No explanation, no alternatives, just take it or leave it.
Overall, this was a frustrating and careless experience — not what you’d expect from a company like Avis. Would not recommend this location to anyone.

My friend reserved a car so we could drive around for several hours after our cruise ship disembarked in Whittier. We arrived at 8:00 AM to pick up the car. The elderly gentleman at the rental office was exceptionally rude from the beginning.
He gave us a car with a flat tire. When we asked why he provided a car with a flat tire, he simply said, “Take it or leave it.” We inquired about the possibility of upgrading and paying more for another car, but he replied that it was the only one available.
He then used a small, portable battery-powered air pump to inflate the tire and asked us to return the pump once we were done. We requested to borrow the pump in case the tire deflated during our trip, but he rudely refused, saying the slowly leaking tire should last 2 to 3 days.
After more than 30 minutes of pumping, the pressure reached 35 PSI and the pump shut off. When we returned the air pump, he unexpectedly changed his mind and allowed us to take it with us. We asked how much battery life was left, given that it was a small device. He told us it should be good for about four uses, but we were skeptical.
As expected, the tire pressure began to drop during the day. By the time we were about 15 minutes from the rental office on our return, the pressure was nearly gone. We stopped to refill the tire, but the pump’s battery was completely dead. We had no choice but to return the car with a flat tire.
Upon return, he scolded us for not refueling the gas tank. We explained we were late for our train to the airport and asked him to simply charge us for the fuel. When we asked where the nearest gas station was, he mocked us, saying, “What a foolish question!” He then said he would charge us $10 per gallon, to which we agreed, since we were out of time.
Overall, the experience was extremely disappointing. He lied about the condition of the car, the air pump, and treated us with hostility throughout the process.

Don’t come here. They just have one sentence, “we can’t do anything “. Even refuse to contact the rental company.
Update: we have to drive back to Avis anchorage to finish the car exchange

Their phone number answers mail box full. The information Avis has about distance from the cruise terminal is out of date for the NCL terminal.

I was disgusted by its website. I was checking the price of renting a car from whittier to anchorage airport and saw the prices of around 200 dollars. I thought it was not bad and so continued to click next step and reserve, and then on the very page of reservation confirmation, I saw there was a 900 dollar one way fee added. And there was no turning back - as that's already the confirmation page and they only showed the fee after you reserve. I mean yes I immediately canceled my reservation so no actual loss but seriously??? I think it must be intentional to trick people to reserve without seeing the huge fee, otherwise which website designs like this?

I saw the negative reviews that seem to come from negative people. Walk PAST the Avis sign on top the containers and take a left up the steps into a little store RED door(Do NOT try the blue trailers before the sign with white doors) inside the store the store manager will take care of you and he is a nice, easy going guy. We got a nice Toyota SUV and are sitting in front of the 1-way tunnel ready to leave town at the full hour.

Worst and most expensive rental I've ever had. The office was locked up when we arrived for our car that we had reserved. Someone called the man at home who came in and offered the excuse -- your reservation must have fallen through the crack. Dirty office in what appeared to be a hardware store. To add to the misery, the tiny, awful car cost almost $800 for three days. They have you over a barrel and they know it being the only game in town. Hope I never have a car rental experience like this again.

No cars available, big waste of time. They need to buy more land and have more cars but they don't want more money apparently,
