“I so appreciated Chad’s professionalism and kindness, but perhaps most of all, the way he interacted with me personally. He seemed to pick up on my personality quickly (Type A, strong-willed, and an independent thinker) and had an incredible ability to read what I needed in different moments. He knew when to be serious and when he could lighten the moment with a little humor; when to give me the space to make my own decisions and when to step in with guidance; and even when I simply needed a little extra TLC. He was incredibly easy to work with and consistently went above and beyond, even responding to text messages later in the evening when needed. The thoughtful, practical things he did meant so much to us; from coming to my home to pick up my husband’s clothes for the casket which gave me a little more time to get everything prepared, to dropping things off at my home and taking the time to check in on us. We also deeply appreciated the opportunity he provided at the graveside for family and friends to write personal messages on Spencer’s casket. That was such a meaningful and thoughtful touch, and we found it incredibly therapeutic in ways we did not necessarily expect. Because we didn’t have the opportunity to have a public viewing, it gave family and friends another tangible and personal way to say goodbye and express their love. Looking back, we are especially grateful that this was made possible. I was also incredibly appreciative of the dignity, care, and attention that went into preparing Spencer for our private viewing, especially given the challenges involved in preparing him for us to see. Every detail was handled with such respect, sensitivity, and compassion. One particularly thoughtful touch was the way they placed his favorite hat so naturally and respectfully in the casket. I remember being struck by how peaceful and well cared for he looked. I had prepared myself for that moment to be difficult, yet the care they had taken made it far more comforting than I could have anticipated. During one of the hardest moments of my life, being able to see Spencer treated with such dignity and tenderness brought me a sense of comfort that I will always remember. I am deeply grateful for the extraordinary care that went into making that private goodbye as peaceful and meaningful as it could possibly be. In one of the most painful seasons of my life, those acts of thoughtfulness, dignity, kindness, and compassion made an enormous difference. They were an extra-special touch of care that I appreciated more than Chad and the entire team may ever fully realize.”
