November 2024 by Sean Daniel Sabbatini
I recently rented a 2023 Chevy Malibu from AVIS/Budget Car Rentals Counter in Fort McMurray and had an extremely disappointing experience. During my rental period, the car was broken into and rummaged through, resulting in the theft of the car manual as well as numerous belongings. When I approached the staff about the missing manual, I was asked if I had a phone. Upon confirming that I did, I was told to “Google it.” This response was condescending and unacceptable, especially considering I had paid approximately $600 for a 4-day rental.
Additionally, when I arrived to pick up the car, the AVIS service desk appeared unmanned as the staff member, Nadeem M, was in the back room. On the day of the car drop-off, I called the local AVIS number five times without any answer. To make matters worse, I witnessed Nadeem entering an AVIS rental car in the parking lot while smoking a cigarette on November 18th, despite all AVIS rentals being non-smoking.
This level of service is far below what I expect from a reputable company like AVIS. I will actively recommend against using this service to others. Avoid if at all possible.

This car rental location stands out as the least satisfactory in all of Canada, and I had previously believed that the ones in Toronto were subpar. Their customer service leaves much to be desired. Despite the provision of corporate codes by companies, they do not honor the associated discounts. Shortly after making a reservation using corporate codes, you receive a call notifying you that the full amount will be charged.Furthermore, even if you opt for a standard car rental, you are restricted to a daily limit of 400 kilometers, and they do not offer unlimited kilometer coverage – a seemingly absurd limitation. Considering that it takes approximately 450 kilometers to exit the city, you can expect to incur costs exceeding $1000 for a three-day rental.I am contemplating discussing this policy with Avis Canada, as it appears they may be overcharging customers based on their location, such as Fort McMurray residents.

Had a car booked and paid for from Fort mcmurray to Edmonton, went to pick the car up at Fort McMurray airport but they said have to return rental to Fort mcmurray airport , i had return location as Edmonton airport. Apparently there was a glitch in their system. The only way i could leave it in Edmonton is if i paid 2000 !!!! UNREAL certainly not a very good first impression or customer service ? needless to say lesson learned and totally rotted!!

The staff is always great to deal with and surprisingly remembers everyone's names. They always have worked with me when picking up or dropping of early or late as required.

Bad experience, my car had engine trouble on the last day on the way to the airport. I had to call a taxi and left the car 50 km south of Fort McMurray. Avis still billed me the full amount on the rental agreement, and after repeated phone calls from me they would not do anything about it.Update: After posing this, they refunded 14% of the week long rental.

Rented a car to go to Edmonton, no mention that it's just 200 kilometers a day and 20 cents a Klick after. What a rip-off. At least they voided the contract before I was robbed

Misled and overcharged. Quoted price was 115, by the time they were done spouting out what other fees I had to deal with I paid over 200...

DONT BOOK FROM HERE, they will just mislead you and overcharge you. I booked a reservation with Expedia with very specific pick up and drop off times and a quoted price of $330. When I arrived at the airport kiosk they said that the pick up and drop off times differed to my reservation and the price would be $410 (Even though I showed them my reservation in the Expedia app) . I told them that was not acceptable and went back on to Expedia to book with another provided as all the other companies were cheaper than $410 for a similar rental. When the manager realized I was about to cancel he told me he would give me a grace period and that since they closed right as I would be dropping it off that I would not be charged the extra money. He printed me off a rental receipt that stated $330, but yet when I received the invoice in my email I was charged $410. I would not have gone forward with the rental at that price and he knew that, so he said whatever he could to make sure that I kept my booking. When I received this invoice, I called the kiosk to have it corrected and have not heard back (of course) I book rental cars on a weekly basis and will NEVER book from Avis again thanks to this substandard level of customer service!

They are a scam! If you rent a car from them, fuel it up and square up your bill, be prepared for another $150 bill for “fuel” to magically show up on your credit card.
