Gibbons Motor Toys began operation in June of 1981 under the name of The Service Department. At this time, automotive repair and maintenance was the primary business.Tim Panasiuk (owner and general manager) expanded the company in 1989 and added a Mercury Marine® franchise. As the recreational side continued to grow, the operating name was changed in the early 1990s to Gibbons Auto and Leisure Centre. In 1995, the Ski-Doo franchise was added, and in 2000 a decision was made to discontinue the automotive repair side. This was done to allow for a better overall focus on the recreational business. This also produced the need for a new name: Gibbons Motor Toys.
