What a lovely little place to stop for lunch! The food and service was excellent. Staff were very friendly and chatty. Their little store is stocked with everything you need when out camping. Propane and also huge bags of firewood for $20. I've also heard on the weekends they have an amazing breakfast buffet.
We'll definitely stop in again on our travels through!

Having worked in the food industry over many years I am loathe to criticise restaurants over meals but I have visited the Wooden Shoe every so often for the past 4 years and have seen a steady decline in the quality of meals produced by the kitchen, and this had been evident when I brought in some Dutch friends of ours who were visiting from BC a couple of months ago.
Today for lunch I was offered their rendition of "home fries" (which were french fries irregularly cut from a fresh potato) thinking they would be better than the frozen variety with my meal; okay, but they were generally hard in the centre and limp and still coated in oil when presented on the plate. Not appealing at all. If the kitchen cannot cook a potato from scratch one has to wonder about the other menu items. There didn't seem to be any managerial staff around so I informed the cashier and she apologised even though of course it was not her fault. The meal could have been comped but she felt no inclination to do so. C'mon Wooden Shoe, you can do better.
I think this will be the last time I eat in the restaurant, and will have a hard time recommending it to others, but I will no doubt return for the grocery items in the shop, although the Cheese Shop in Sylvan Lake is starting to carry more Dutch items as is Sproules IDA in Red Deer.

the food was awful. it was the worst pie I have ever had. ever. maybe it was a bad day. the wait was long, the staff were nice...enough. expensive.

I enjoyed the service here. Attentive and polite.
Food was served quickly and pretty good. It was a nice change from cooking in the trailer. We were camping nearby and wanted to give this place a try.
The store attached to also had an abundance of snacks. Ice cream too, but that's served from a different entrance around the back of the main building.

Went for ice cream in the back and the worker who served me and my sister seemed to treat us differently than the Caucasian couple ahead, when I had asked for a bubble gum ice cream she told me to go see if THEY had any and the energy she had given to the couple ahead, completely vanished when serving us, I know being in spaces like this as a POC it didn't make me feel welcomed in the slightest, maybe do better and hire workers that aren't blatantly biased to customers for how they look. And why is the ice cream ridiculously priced that much? I'd understand if it's hard being in the smack dab of nowhere, but like ?? Why . Miss when ice cream wasn't that expensive to enjoy fr.

Fast good food, priced well, with excellent service. Mostly local traffic but they have a lot of essentials if you're running low.
