Dear HI leadership,I had the worst hotel or hostel experience of my life at the Lake Louise HI today. When I arrived at the hotel late last night I discovered that the water vending machine was not working. I had no cup or bottle of water to refill.I was without water for 12 hours in a very dry and hot room. I woke up extremely dehydrated and barely able to speak. The vending machine still didn't work and the restaurant staff was kind enough to provide a plastic pitcher of water considering this predicament. However, when I went to lunch I mistakenly left the pitcher in the restaurant. When I went to retrieve it they refused to provide one even though there were dozens. When I approached the front desk who were aware of my predicament being without a receptacle for water they were equally unhelpful and condescending. His exact words "you're not Canadian are you?"It was pretty shocking hearing that in what is widely considered the friendliest country. He went on to explain that I can drink from any water source, which was not the concern. I had nothing to put the Water in. Did he expect that I would drink directly from the faucet? When I decided to move on to accommodations were I might feel welcome and have access to the basic need for water I approached the front desk again. I politely asked for a refund, considering it was not check in time and the hotel was empty and I would not be staying. He refused once again to show any consideration for my predicament.I hope that the staff at HI Lake Louise can use this as a learning experience. By simply providing a pitcher of water to a guest in a unique circumstance they could have avoided the situation and earned the minimum expectation for hospitality. By providing a refund in this unique situation they might have earned repeat business from a long time customer.Unfortunately it will be a long time, if ever, that I stay within the HI network again. My hometown of Buffalo NY is home to a very good location and I am very confident they would have taken care of me. Buffalo being the city of good neighbors.I went across the street to the Lake Louise Inn with many more amenities and much higher level of hospitality and customer service and was shocked to find they had the same rate. It would be very difficult for me to even consider wasting any time inquiring about a Hostel International if there is another option, considering this experience.Respectfully,Darren KresgeRoom 208

Staff is friendly and nice, but the room itself has a heating issue. Cold air leaks in from the window, causing the room to be cold. And the bathroom vent hasn't been cleaned since forever.

Welcomed by a very charming man who made the effort to speak in French ☺️, I had the opportunity to try the restaurant next door, Maria is super pleasant, and willing, the elk burger was honestly very good, good value for money, music just a little too loud, the establishment is very clean, whether in the rooms, showers, or common area, frankly we feel very good there, the small downside is the level in the kitchen, there is little equipment when you want to cookr, it would be really cool to at least provide oil, some spices and coffee, it's good value for money, the setting is magnificent. ??❤️

Rooms around Lake Louise are not easy to find. Prices are high. Rooms do not have showers. But there is a toilet and bathtub in the room with many amenities such as Washing machine, sauna room, and restaurant inside. There is convenient parking. Not far from the supermarket. The room is not very soundproof. Heard a loud noise from the room above. The room does not have an elevator. You have to carry your bag up the stairs yourself. But I couldn't hear the train. As many reviews say The smell of food from the restaurant was very strong. Until I could smell it in the bedroom.

If you like to live adventures climbing vertical walls, with a ladder more than 3 m high, to find a pair of mattresses that do not fit into the bed base and without available plugs, this is your place! You may experience moldy showers, a kitchen that drips grease from the extractor hood while you cook, and refrigerators with no space to store your food.If you also decide to wash your clothes, you better bring your own detergent since for some reason they never have it available (we stayed two different days and they never had it), and have a dryer that does not dry with a 50-minute program. All this for a modest price of +80 CAD.*The rest of the HI hostel we stayed in were in perfect condition, just don't waste your time here

All wrong. Shared room without lockers, the room closes poorly and the bathroom has a stuck latch. The kitchen is filthy, the hood dripped a lot of grease. And to make matters worse, the dryer does not dry well (after 45 minutes stuck, and having turned it on, the hostel managers suggest that I did not turn it on)! It's probably stuck. They also do not have detergent for the washing machine, being a service that they offer for $1, being forced to go to the gas station and buy 20 capsules for $12.The showers were left, with stains and mine in particular was clogged, I showered in a pool...The friendly staff, the good location and the cheapest price (although I find it expensive).

Very expensive for the lack of cleanliness that we experienced yesterday in the common spaces. We smelled the urine in the salon and the shared bathrooms were dirty! So yes, there are not enough employees but aren’t we entitled to a discount then ? We couldn’t enjoy all the amenities.

Overpriced, beds are too short (and I’m only 6ft) and staff aren’t especially accommodating. I requested to check in an hour early as I was exhausted from a day-hike, was told that no rooms were available yet (they didn’t even ask my name), and had to wait outside. When I got to my shared hostel room, 3 beds were available…On another note, I wish there were social events or other ways to meet young travellers staying at the hostel. Next time I’m in the Rockies going to choose somewhere more comfortable.

This youth hostel will put your 4 star hotel to shame. We came with a family of 4 and stayed in a quiet room with a private shower. My kids have really been impressed with this place. My wife came here with her Mom 25 years ago at this exact location and now we are here again. After hiking to Lake Moraine during the day, playing a game of pool with my son at the communal space at night will surely cement our memories here.Rooms: Quite, roomy and comfortable.
